Wet Season Magic!

African Wild Dogs are always on the move, covering vast distances in search of prey. Just spotting them is a privilege, but having a whole pack trot past our vehicle is pure safari gold! Out here in the bush, even something as unassuming as elephant dung plays a vital role in the cycle of life. This humble pile isn’t just waste—it’s a miniature ecosystem in itself. Packed with nutrients, it becomes the perfect nursery for fungi, like these delicate mushrooms bursting forth in the cool morning light. As they grow, they break down organic matter, enriching the soil and supporting new plant life. In turn, this sustains the grazers, browsers, and, ultimately, the elephants themselves. A simple moment on our morning walk, but a powerful reminder that in nature, everything is connected!

Nature never sleeps! While we rested beneath the stars, the wild carried on its quiet, untamed rhythm. Bushpigs are common and widespread across Africa, yet they remain elusive due to their secretive nature and nocturnal habits. So you can imagine our amazement when we stumbled upon this little fellow in broad daylight at the start of our morning walk!

Completely unfazed, he wandered right up for a sniff before spending the next 20 minutes foraging around us—an unforgettable encounter with one of Africa’s most secretive creatures!

There is no more beautiful time of year for Ranger training. The wet season is slowly winding down now so we have found the time to get some good training in for our friends at S.T.E.P (Southern Tanzania Elephant Program).

The lovely bull became a little protective over his fallen pods once he found out we were watching. This was a strange almost jumping demonstration I have never seen before!

The Winterthorn trees are in full fruit at the flycamp! As always the hungry Bulls accompany this dry season bounty.
