Meet Loya! Loyarate Narikai is one of the cornerstones of TAASA Lodge and has been with us since day one. His keen tracking skills and deep connection to nature play a vital role in crafting unforgettable experiences for our guests.

Born and raised in Ololosokwan Village, Loya spent his childhood exploring the wild – climbing trees, collecting wild fruits, and learning the ways of the land with his six siblings. These early adventures sharpened his instincts and set him on the path to becoming the exceptional tracker he is today.

When he’s not out in the bush, Loya is a proud father of six and enjoys relaxing with a football match or birdwatching. What drives him most about his job? The chance to explore new places, meet fascinating people and encounter rare wildlife. 🦁🐾

With 24 years of experience in the tourism industry, May has worn many hats—from pastry chef to food and beverage manager and from training and mentorship to lodge management. Her passion for nature and people drives her commitment to creating unforgettable experiences for guests while celebrating diverse cultures.

May has a deep appreciation for TAASA Lodge and is dedicated to our mission of fostering strong relationships, empowering local communities, protecting the land and wildlife, and encouraging guests to explore the rich natural treasures of Tanzania. Giraffes are true icons of the African savanna and one of our favorite animals to encounter on safari. Their towering height gives them a distinct advantage, allowing them to feast on the leaves of acacia trees that are out of reach for most other herbivores.

They can consume up to 75 pounds of foliage each day, using their long tongues to skillfully strip leaves from branches, even avoiding the tree’s sharp thorns. Not only are giraffes efficient eaters, but their unique diet also gives them a distinct role in the ecosystem, helping to prune trees and maintain the landscape.

Meet Erick Mshana, Head Ranger at TAASA Lodge. With over 7 years of experience at TAASA Lodge, Erick is a seasoned guide who brings a deep knowledge of the Serengeti to every game drive.

His passion for wildlife and exploring new areas makes him a standout Head Ranger, dedicated to showing guests the best of Tanzania. In his downtime, Erick enjoys watching wildlife documentaries, improving his English through music and subtitles, and reading up on animal facts. He’s also an avid swimmer and loves discovering new places. Erick’s favorite part of the job is meeting people from around the world and sharing the beauty of Tanzania’s landscapes, wildlife, and culture. He’s had some incredible experiences in the bush, like witnessing the birth of a giraffe, spotting seven black rhinos in one drive, and observing a wildebeest migration crossing that lasted over three hours.
