Today, I received an invitation to the Tanzanian Embassy in Den Haag on behalf of my company, Wild Game Safari Tanzania, for all the international promotional work we have done for the Tanzanian tourism industry. I will participate in a meeting looking to shape the future of the industry specifically collaboration between Tanzania and Netherlands.

Funnily enough, this will be the opportune moment to discuss my Master's Thesis research with experts and other stakeholders getting critical input. My thesis has the following main research question.

How can a safari tour operator improve sustainability practices to minimise environmental impact and maximise the economic while creating social benefits within the travel and tourism industry?

Although hunting can take place at any time of day, most activity is at night. Females do much of the hunting, although males will frequently cooperate when catching larger prey. Lions live in prides of closely related females, usually with 3–10 adult females and 1 –3 adult males, although prides of up to 39 animals led by β€˜coalitions’ of 7–9 males have been reported. Male β€˜coalitions’ can comprise both related and unrelated animals. Pride members frequently split into smaller groups or move alone within the home range.

The largest living land mammal, Savanna Elephants, has huge bodies, a long, highly mobile trunk, and large ears. Their bodies are grey, with little hair and long tails with a black tassel at the tip. Both sexes have tusks, although these are typically much larger in males. Th e largest pair of tusks ever recorded (103 kg and 97 kg | 227 lb and 213 lb) were from a bull shot on Mount Kilimanjaro at the end of the 19th century. Adult males are significantly larger than females.

Here, you can see the difference between the wet and dry seasons on the Mkata flood plains in Mikumi National Park. We are currently experiencing a lot of heavy rainfall in Tanzania for January.

We will write an article about the impacts of the seasons on tourism, specifically on experiences.

How can a tour operator be best prepared to navigate these complex scenarios as the climate is rapidly changing?

Plains Zebras are social animals that live in small, stable harems of one male and 1–8 adult females and their off spring. The males are non-territorial and
move with the family group. Large herds consist of many family groups that often move together in loose aggregations of several hundred.

We had the opportunity to take part in the Amsterdam Vacation Fair 2024. It was a fantastic event over the weekend. Tour operators and agents from all around the world participated. I was honoured to represent my country of Birth and company, Wild Game Safari Tanzania.

Networking with industry stakeholders and potential clients was very fun and informative. This was a major milestone for all those involved in the company, directly and indirectly, without whom it was not possible.

We look forward to a good season in 2024.

African Buffalos form distinct population units, sharing home ranges where herds regularly split and regroup into smaller or larger groups. In savannas, herds can range from 20 to a staggering 2,500 animals, while males might go solo or form small bachelor groups. Home ranges vary from 100 to 1,000 kmΒ² (40-400 miΒ²). Most active during mornings and evenings, they prefer shade during the day's heat.

πŸ“ In Tanzania, Savanna Elephants are surprisingly widespread, found in almost every mainland National Park, excluding Kitulo and Gombe. They also inhabit most Game Reserves (except Mpanga-Kipengere and Ibanda GRs) and numerous Forest Reserves.

Savanna Elephants are incredibly adaptable, thriving in diverse habitats like deserts, savannas, wetlands, bushlands, woodlands, and montane forests. Their diet leans towards grasses but extends to various vegetation. Their social structure is complex, ranging from mother-infant units to family groups, bond groups, clans, and subpopulations with varying social interactions. Female elephants, led by the eldest (matriarch), form family groups of 2–50 animals.

Female impalas form family groups of 30–120 individuals, sticking to specific territories. In contrast, young male impalas leave their families at 6–8 months to join groups of bachelor males. Territorial males, managing areas of 20–60 hectares, showcase interesting mating behaviours, such as loud snorting and roaring, to attract and keep receptive females within their territory. 🦌🌳
