Our party of three went Tanzania in Dec 2024 to climb Kilimanjaro and to enjoy the safari.
Kilimanjaro - Machame Hike
To start, Pius and Baraka were our guides on our 7 day Machame ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro. From the get go, they were massive help to check our equipment and advising on what we needed to get and prepare for the journey. They gave us all the information we needed and made sure all our questions were answered before we event started.
On our journey they also were very knowledgeable on the different flora and fauna up the mountain and never failed to let us know when they spot the different types of plants and animals that are unique to Kilimanjaro.
From day 1, they made sure that our hike is safe and always emphasized that we were not rushing or competing against other groups, and that their main objective is to get us to the summit safely. For me, having gone through a slipped disc in the past, they were always paying attention to me, even to the extent of carrying my load on top of theirs to make sure I wasn't pushing myself too hard and kept reassuring us that we will make it to the summit! They made us feel really at home on the mountain, and we absolutely love that we felt comfortable to talk about anything under the sun!
I also cannot forget to mention all the porters that accompanied us on our journey, it was crazy watching them carrying all our stuff from camp to camp. The porters also made us feel so at home, like a mountain family. All of them were very friendly, always greeting us with a smile and cheering us on all 7 days of the hike! While some of them did not speak fluent English, it was definitely not something that hindered our experience and interactions at all.
All in all, we made it to the summit and back in one piece and I would say without the encouragement of the guides and team, I do not think I would have summited as well as I did. It was such a memorable experience and I think having the team with us made it so much better!
