Today is International Women's Day so let's talk about some of the impressive ladies from the Bush, female Elephants.

Did you know that the female leader of an elephant herd is called the matriarch and that the herd primarily consists of females?

The matriarch is typically the oldest and most experienced female in the group, and she plays a crucial role in decision-making and guiding the herd.

The majority of a herd consists of females because they hold the dominant positions in their social structure. This is partly due to the fact that female elephants have stronger social bonds and cooperate more closely in raising offspring, while male elephants tend to roam more independently and leave the herd once they reach sexual maturity between the ages of 12 to 15.

This separation is essential for preventing inbreeding and promoting genetic diversity among different elephant populations.

Lunch was prepared with love, table and chairs included (beware of the monkeys!) Our crush was definitively the Ngorongoro crater. The first glance was just breathtaking; did we land in paradise? Early this morning Christian, Cedrik, Robin and Janina from Switzerland left Ilboru Safari Lodge in Arusha and they are going on a 3-day Safari. Hosted by our Genes Adventures' professionals Silva (driver/guide) and Genes (founder).

Today they are visiting ๐“๐€๐‘๐€๐๐†๐ˆ๐‘๐„ ๐๐€๐“๐ˆ๐Ž๐๐€๐‹ ๐๐€๐‘๐Š which is famous for its iconic ๐๐€๐Ž๐๐€๐ ๐“๐‘๐„๐„๐’ (=๐ฆ๐›๐ฎ๐ฒ๐ฎ) but also home to big herds of ๐„๐‹๐„๐๐‡๐€๐๐“๐’.

YESS! Yesterday at 14.25 our Swiss group ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญ made it to UHURU peak at 5895 mtrs. Congratulations to all. They have now left Base Camp (Barafu) and heading towards Mweka Camp and tomorrow the will be back in Moshi Town. What a wonderful achievement.

The Maasai, a semi-nomadic tribe in East Africa, are known for their distinctive culture, marked by colorful attire, intricate beadwork, and the iconic jumping dance. They maintain traditional pastoralist practices, living in harmony with the land and their livestock. The chief of this 120 headed family is mister Lesiani and today they have shown our guests how they make a proper bush fire = ENKIMA. The Maasai language is differs completely from Swahili and it will take a while before you master it .
