Day 5: Mt Kilimanjaro climb via Machame Route. From Karanga Camp (13,100 ft / 3,993 m) to Barafu Camp (15,270 ft / 4,673 m).
You’ll start with a moderate climb through rocky, volcanic terrain. The route is a gradual but steady ascent, weaving across the alpine desert landscape as you get closer to Barafu Camp. "Barafu" means "ice" in Swahili, reflecting the cold, windy conditions that often characterize this camp. You'll experience an exciting shift in the landscape and a steady ascent towards your summit attempt. The surroundings become stark and barren, with fewer plants and some occasional wildlife sightings. This stage of the route is known for its rocky paths and open vistas that offer sweeping views across the plains and the crater rim.

Once at Barafu Camp, you'll have some time to rest, eat, and prepare for the summit push, which usually starts around midnight. Your guides will brief you on the final ascent.

Day 4: Mt. Kilimanjaro via Machame route.
This is one of the most challenging yet rewarding parts of the climb. On this day, climbers typically trek from Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp, taking on the infamous Barranco Wall along the way. After leaving Barranco Camp, you'll immediately face the Barranco Wall, a 257-meter high (843 ft) rocky cliff that requires some scrambling but is safe with support from guides. This section isn’t as steep as it looks, but it requires focus, balance, and stamina. It’s a memorable and exhilarating experience!

After scaling the wall, you're rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Kibo Peak and the valleys below. This is a great spot to pause, catch your breath, and take photos before you proceed with a hike to Karanga Camp.

Day 3: Machame Route to Mt. Kilimanjaro.

You’ll start your trek from Shira Cave Camp (3,840m/12,600 ft) to Lava Tower (4,630m/15,190 ft), then descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m/13,000 ft).

This day is known for acclimatization, as it takes you to a higher elevation at Lava Tower before descending for the night. You’ll traverse semi-desert and alpine landscapes with rocky and exposed paths, particularly near Lava Tower. As you descend, you’ll enter the valley with its dramatic cliffs and stunning views, leading to Barranco Camp, set in a scenic area with giant Senecio trees.
This trek is crucial for acclimatization since you ascend to a high point and then sleep at a lower elevation. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy helps your body adjust to the altitude and reduce symptoms of altitude sickness.

Distance: ~10 km (6.2 miles)
Duration: 6-7 hours
Elevation Gain: +790 m (to Lava Tower)Elevation Loss: -670 m (to Barranco Camp).

The day begins with a steep ascent through the forest zone, transitioning into the moorland. The path becomes rockier as you gain elevation. The environment becomes more open, offering panoramic views of Kibo Peak and Mount Meru.Altitude:You’ll climb from about 2,835 meters (9,300 feet) to 3,750 meters (12,300 feet). It's common to start feeling the effects of altitude at this stage.

Started our journey to the roof of Africa today! 🚶‍♂️💪 Hiked through the lush, misty rainforest from Machame Gate 1800m to Machame Camp (2835m). The views were absolutely stunning! 🌳🍃 The trail was a bit muddy, but the energy was high, and the team was pumped for what was ahead.

Feeling the altitude kick in, but we're ready for this challenge! 🙌 The adventure has officially begun! 🏔️

Distance: About 11 kilometers (7 miles)
Duration: 5 to 7 hours
Elevation gain: 1,200 meters (3,900 feet)

The Fig Tree Arch is the largest and probably most popular tree in Tanzania because of the hollow, arc-shaped opening, large enough to accommodate a whole vehicle to pass through.

It's found along the rough road that heads to the first Mount Meru hut, and it is rightfully one of the many breathtaking sights in Arusha National Park

An archway has been carved through this enormous fig tree, and it is breathtaking to look at. The archway provides a unique frame for visitors to capture stunning photographs of the surrounding landscape.

The fig tree arch is truly a unique and remarkable natural wonder and a must-seen natural attraction that should not be missed during your visit to Arusha National Park, for either a wildlife safari or Mount Meru 4566m climb, the second highest peak in Tanzania and fifth in Africa.

Historically, this tree was formed when seeds of the fig were dropped by foraging birds in the fork of a host tree. Germination took place, and the fig's aerial roots slowly reached the ground and strangled the host tree, resulting in its
eventual death, leaving behind the fig tree.

If you can dream it, it probably exists
on the Lemosho route for 8 days or Machame for 7 days to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak 5895m.

On your way up, you will pass through different landscapes on the summit to the Roof of Africa:

1) Rainforest Zone: The trek begins in the lush
rainforest zone, characterized by dense vegetation
including a variety of trees, plants, and wildlife.

2) Heather and Moorland Zone: As you ascend, the
trees become sparser, and you'll encounter unique
plant species adapted to the alpine environment. The
views start to open up, offering glimpses of the
surrounding mountains

3) Alpine Desert Zone: The higher you go, the more
the landscape resembles an alpine desert.
Vegetation becomes scarce, and the terrain is rocky.
The stark beauty of the landscape is complemented
by expansive views of the plains below.

4) Alpine Zone: The final push to the summit takes
you through the alpine zone, characterized by snow
and ice. The landscape is rugged, and the air
becomes thinner as you approach the highest point,
Uhuru Peak.
