! The Great Migration Sees Over 2 Million Animals Travel Across the Plains.
The journey for the key players in the Great Migration, the roughly two million wildebeest, starts in the south of the Serengeti, with the birth of half a million calves between January and March. When the drought comes in May, the herd moves north, towards the Masai Mara in Kenya, chomping down the high green grass, quickly followed by the gazelles and zebras. Crossing the Mara River is no easy feat, coming face to face with over 3,000 hungry crocodiles.
Then, with the beginning of the short rains in late October, the migration makes its way back into the Serengeti. By December, the herds trek past central Serengeti to return to their calving grounds again, and the circle is complete.

Fun Fact Friday! Leopards communicate with each other through distinctive calls. For instance, when a male wants to make another leopard aware of his presence, he’ll make a hoarse, raspy cough. They also growl when angry and, like domestic cats, purr when happy and relaxed.
