August 26 is International or World (Wild) Dog Day.

A good reason to shed the light on the African Wild Dog, which you can spot in some of the National Parks in Tanzania, such as Mkomazi National Park and famous Serengeti National Park.

No guarantees, because they are not spotted easily, even though the African Wild Dog is living in packs.

Interested in visiting one of these parks, check out our website: www.ajubatussafaris.com

🌿🐾 Nature's small wonders with big stories to tell! Meet the LIttle 5.🐾🌿

Meet this week’s member of the Little 5 family, the antlion. It may not look like a lion, but don’t let the size of this omnivorous insect fool you.

Tiny as they are, the antlions are known for their fiercely predatory habits of their larvae which dig pits to trap ants or other prey.

The antlion larvae eat ants and other insects, but when they mature into adults they consume pollen and nectar instead.

Want to try to find the antlion? Or prefer to try to catch the Big 5?

Check out www.ajubatussafaris.com for the opportunities.

And stay tuned for meeting the last member of the Little 5 Family, the Rhino Beetle.

🌿🐾 Nature's small wonders with big stories to tell! Meet the LIttle 5.🐾🌿

After the Elephant Shrew and the Buffalo Weaver, get to know the Leopard Tortoise. Not as impressive as his big “sibling” - the leopard - but therefore not less interesting.

This tortoise, one of the largest in its kind, gets its name from the markings on the shell that resemble the large spotted cat with the same name.

That’s where the resemblance ends. Where our tortoise friend can easily pass the age of 50, his big sibling has a lifespan of 12 to 17 years.

Also their diets are completely different. Our shelled friend is a herbivore, while as a predator the leopard prefers the meat of gazelles, zebras, buffalos or even giraffes.

And though a leopard is not always easy to spot, the leopard tortoise is even harder to find.

But our team is more than happy to give it a try when you decide to visit Tanzania.

Check out www.ajubatussafaris.com for the opportunities.

And stay tuned for meeting the remaining members of the Little 5 Family over the coming weeks.

🌿🐾 Nature's small wonders with big stories to tell! Meet the LIttle 5.🐾🌿

The Buffalo Weavers are large weavers, social, and found largely in dry savannas. They build bulky, untidy domed nests of thorny branches in large trees.

It is a dark feathered little bird with a bright red beak and with a diet that consists mainly of insects, seeds, and fruits. More varied than the diet of the African buffalo, where grass forms the bulk.

Let us know if you think there are any similarities !👇

Dream - Discover - Travel: Meet the Marabou Stork, also known as - perhaps not a name you've heard before, but definitely a member of the Ugly Five clan. With its unusual appearance and long legs, it's hard to miss. But what really sets it apart is the long, reddish pouch hanging from its neck, used in courtship rituals. 💕 Found throughout Africa, these communal birds often gather near lakes or rivers. Despite their imposing presence, they're not noisy neighbors - just the occasional grunt, croak, or bill rattle. While exploring Tanzania, keep an eye out for Marabous snacking on frogs and fish to feed themselves or their little ones! These Vultures are expert scavengers, feasting on the carcasses of both wild and domestic animals. Unlike migratory birds, they stick to their habitat year-round, making them a constant presence in the African skies. Dream - Discover - Travel. Dive into the enchanting world of giant tortoises this World Turtle Day at Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island, off the coast of Zanzibar. Contrary to its name, this island served as a quarantine rather than a prison, and today it's a sanctuary for the magnificent Aldabra giant tortoise.
These gentle giants, descendants of those from the Aldabra Atoll in Seychelles, were originally brought here as a gift from the British governor. Now, over a century later, around 100 of these majestic creatures roam freely on the island, with some weighing up to a whopping 200 kilograms.
Visitors to Changuu Island (easy to reach from Stone Town on Zanzibar) have the unique opportunity to get up close to these incredible tortoises, learning about their history and conservation efforts. And while you're there, you might want to experience the stunning snorkeling opportunities in the crystal-clear waters surrounding the island.
Join us in celebrating World Turtle Day by spreading appreciation for these magnificent creatures and the sanctuaries dedicated to their well-being.

Dream - Discover - Travel: Meet the Hyena, the second member of the Ugly Five! Often labeled as "ugly," but beauty is subjective, right? They make a distinctive laughing sound when stressed, serving as a warning to their clan. Yet, there's more to them than meets the eye. As expert scavengers, they clean up carcasses, preventing disease spread and keeping ecosystems healthy. Their keen sense of smell helps them sniff out carrion from afar. Let's appreciate these misunderstood creatures for their important role in nature! If you are interested to see for yourself, please check out our website www.ajubatussafaris.com for beautiful safaris throughout Tanzania. Dream - Discover - Travel🐆 Let's shine a spotlight on the final member of the Big Five: the incredible leopard! These predators are not just stunning to look at, they're also spectacular hunters. Did you know that leopards can reach speeds of up to 58 km/h? Talk about lightning-fast! But what really sets them apart is their remarkable agility and strength. They can effortlessly climb trees while dragging prey heavier than their own body weight. While many photos capture leopards in their tree-dwelling glory, studies show that they actually spend most of their time on the ground. Trees serve as their ultimate escape route from other predators, a safe place to stash their kills away from scavengers, and the perfect vantage point for spotting potential prey. Buffaloes are true grassland enthusiasts, roaming through open fields, wooded areas, and bushed landscapes. They're most active during the early morning, evening, and nighttime, spending the rest of their time chilling in the shade like cows in a field.
