The Zanzibar Commission for Tourism, in collaboration with the Zanzibar National Sports Council, hosted the 2nd International Kitesurf Regatta, the “Zanzibar Cup 2024 - KUSi,” on Saturday, August 24th, 2024, at Kiwengwa Beach.

The event featured 33 participants, including 8 international kite surfers. The Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage was the Guest of Honor, awarding the first-place prize of $3,000 to Jacobo Contini from Italy.

The second-place winner, Suleiman Abdallah from Paje, Zanzibar, received $1,000, and the third-place winner, Seif Shaaban from Kiwengwa, Zanzibar, was also recognized.

In his remarks, the Principal Secretary highlighted the significance of this collaboration, emphasizing that sports tourism is a key priority for the Zanzibar Commission for Tourism in promoting the region as a premier tourist destination.

ZATO Board of Directors and members are actively participating in a vibrant "Tourism Day" as part of the ongoing Kizimkazi Festival, which runs from August 18th to 25th, 2024.

The day was filled with sports, cultural music, and entertainment, showcasing the rich heritage of Zanzibar.

Since its beginning in 2015 as a farewell event for President Samia Suluhu Hassan following her appointment as running mate to President John Magufuli, the festival has evolved into a significant celebration.

It became known as Kizimkazi Day in 2017 and was officially established as a festival in 2020.

On August 2nd, the ZATO Board of Directors and members had a meeting at the new ZATO office in Mazizini, Zanzibar.

Discussed the way forward for informal business players & Harrasement and inbound travel insurance.

Government officials from the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage were also invited to share Pemba tourism opportunities, including the “Pemba Swahili Festival.”

ZATO actively participated in a 2-day workshop organized by for private sector stakeholders to discuss the development of the private sector engagement framework in skills development for youth employability in the Blue Economy Project (SEBEP), funded by the and implemented by the Ministry for Education and Vocational Training, Zanzibar.

CEO – Zanzibar Association of Tour Operators, Mr. Kombo Dhikiri Kombo, was among the invitees invited by the Kenya Tourism Federation to the 2-day workshop aimed at giving awareness to industry stakeholders across the East Africa Region on proposed harmonized sustainable tourism standards.

The goal was for them to interrogate these standards and provide valuable feedback, suggestions, and insights to refine them.

These standards are designed to promote sustainable practices and elevate the overall quality of tourism experiences throughout the East Africa region.

The workshop was held on the 6th and 7th of May 2024 at Golden Tulip City Centre, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
