Monument to Taras Shevchenko was erected in 1935 at the entrance to the garden with the same name. It’s considered to be the best monument among more than 250 monuments all over the world constructed in honour to great Ukranian poet.

This monument is considered to be one of the symbols of Kharkiv. The project of the monument represents peculiar architectural spiral with Taras Shevchenko figure inside and 16 figures around. This architectural spiral symbolizes stages of Ukraine development, struggle of Ukranian people for their rights against oppressors.

The Shevchenko Gardens is the oldest green area in the city center. The gardens central path is a beautiful chestnut-tree alley leading from the Taras Shevchenko Monument to the University building. The gardens area of 25 hectares has over 15,000 trees and bushes of more than 100 varieties. It also has gigantic oaks, which are over 200 years old. In total the Gardens represent approximately 300 species. The initiator of laying the gardens belongs to V.Karzain, the founder of Kharkiv University. On the grounds of the T.Shevchenko Gardens there is an astronomical observatory of the Kharkiv National University founded in 1808.
Being in Kharkiv you should visit this piece of nature and masterpiece of the city, you surely will enjoy every minute spending there!

The Mykola Lysenko Kharkiv Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre
The construction was designed by Kiev architects in post modernist style and it took almost 20 years to build it from 1970 till 1991. The building contains two auditoriums for 1500 and 400 seats, spacious foyers, numarious administrative facilities, cinema – Kinopalac.

During the warmer weather, magnificent light and music fountains glister on the site in front of the theatre. Twinkling multicoloured streams and entrancing melodies invite you to enjoy the eternal mystery of opera again and again

The Fountain «Mirror stream» refers to the most outstanding architectural construction of Kharkov and at the same time it is one of its wonders and symbols of the city as well. It’s under the UNESCO protection. It’s located on Sumskaia Street, in the square opposite the Opera House.
Mirror Stream is one of the favorite places for meetings and having rest for citizens and guests of the city. It is also one of the favourite places to make photo session for couples after wedding ceremony:-)

The House of State Industry, (Derzhprom) is symbol of Kharkiv city. It was constructed in construktivizm style which reflects the character of our city. It was the first high rise reinforced concrete and frame construction in Soviet Union!

Looking at the building of Derzhprom, it is difficult to believe that initial earthwork was carried out with shovels, crow bars and hammers. Stone hammers were used to crush granite into chip stones, concrete was mixed with shovels and soil was disposed by horses.

An enormous, even by modern standards, multi storey concrete and frame construction with 45 000 windows . The area of glazing is in 1,5 time bigger than the area of Freedom Square, it is nearly 17 hegtars . The House of State Industry was erected within exceptionally short period - for three years (from 1925-1928)

Being in Kharkov, make a walk to the “Bridge of Lovers”, it is located in the very heart of the city, close to the zoo, at Spusk Passionarii. Here you will see countless locks big and small, old and new, of different forms and colors...these are the locks uniting the hearts!
