Overlooking the waterfront of Elliott Bay in Seattle, Washington, is the Pike Place Market. Opened in 1907, the market is now a historic, iconic part of the city. Pike Place Market is the ultimate place to shop in Seattle, because it is full of the oldest establishments in the region.

There are markets where fresh fish straight from the Puget Sound gets tossed dramatically, cheesemongers who offer tastings of locally made brie and camembert and then there is the site of the original Starbucks coffee shop.

Perhaps the most unmistakably American landmark is Mount Rushmore, a national memorial located in South Dakota. Constructed in the early 20th century, Mount Rushmore depicts the faces of four former American presidents, each of which is carved and blasted from the side of a rock face.

Visitors can admire the larger-than-life faces of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. The short Presidential Trail at the base of Mount Rushmore provides better views and an interesting perspective on the landmark.

The state of Alaska is located in the northwest of the continent, and Hawaii is in the Pacific Ocean. The major cities of the Atlantic coast include New York and the capital Washington. To the west of them is another important city - Chicago, known for its impressive architecture. And on the west coast is Los Angeles with famous Hollywood film studios.

The logical successor to the tremendously popular Disneyland in California, Walt Disney opened in Florida in 1971. One of the main reasons why Walt Disney World became very popular was the number of brands and restaurants that wanted to rush here, given the sudden boost in tourism. Pushing the limits of technology with their creative design ideas, the designers here have done a remarkable job.

One of the largest waterfalls in the world, America’s most popular tourist attraction, the Niagara Falls is a result of glaciers receding at the end of the Wisconsin glaciation (the last ice age). Renowned both for their beauty and as a valuable source of hydroelectric power, the falls are indeed one of the best landmarks of USA.

Needing no introduction, the Statue of Liberty is one of the most iconic attraction of the Big Apple. The statue is also considered to be one of the best manmade US landmarks, along with being recognized by many as the patriotic American symbol of freedom and liberty. Weighing at a staggering 225 tons, the statue hits the sky at 151 feet and 1 inches.

Posing as a barrier to the mighty Colorado River, the Hoover dam was previously known as Boulder Dam. An engineering marvel, the dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the Black Canyon, on the border between the U.S. states of Nevada and Arizona. Generating hydroelectric power, Hoover provides water for seven states. The now-open Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge was opened to allow faster travel through the area, in 2010.

Symbolizing the importance of St. Louis as the Gateway to the West, this structural monument is a part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park. Be sure to ride to the top of Gateway Arch in Saint Louis for great views of the city and the Mississippi. Escalating to a height of 630-foot, the arch is in the U.S. state of Missouri.
