❤️ In Kyiv, there is a sculpture dedicated to the story of love that went through war and a concentration camp. Italian Luigi Peduto and Ukrainian Mokryna Yurzuk met in the Glanstof camp in Austria in 1943.

He was a prisoner of war, she was kidnapped for forced labor.

Luigi was 21 years old, Mokryna was 23, and she already had a newborn daughter, Nadia. He helped a Ukrainian woman with a child, and once he brought her a coat that he sewed himself from scraps of fabric. The man did not know Ukrainian, but she spoke Italian, they understood each other by looks and gestures.

After the liberation of Austria from the fascists in May 1945, the kidnapped youth began to return home. Luigi wanted to go with Mokryna to Italy, but he was not allowed. The woman returned to Ukraine.

Luigi got married in Italy, had a son, Mokryna got married in her homeland and had 3 children. In their old age, they managed to meet again at the age of 82 and 84. They visited each other – he flew to Ukraine, and she flew to Italy for 7 years.

He died in 2013, she in 2015. Mokryna outlived Luigi by 2 years.

The sculpture was opened on May 7, 2013, on the eve of the Victory Day celebration in the Mariinsky Park of Kyiv near the Bridge of Lovers.

Impressive installation "I'm Fine" attracts attention at the 2024 Burning Man Project festival, held annually in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, USA.

Created by artist Oleksii Sai Liosha Say and The Ukrainian Witness project's founder Vitaliy Deynega, it measures 32 meters long and 7 meters high, constructed from real war artifacts collected from liberated areas: bullet-riddled road signs, solar panels, satellite dishes, destroyed city signs, and broken fences.

The artwork highlights the impact of armed aggression, which has led to the destruction of over 2,024 cultural institutions, including 334 that are completely ruined and irreparable.

"The sculpture is as real as the war itself. I want the audience to feel closer to the people of Ukraine who have suffered and to understand that we are fighting for our culture and identity. When festival-goers stand next to the sculpture and physically touch the damaged materials, bullet holes, and debris, they will be able to sense the scale and impact of the war — and this is our reality," said Oleksii Sai.

Some already call the installation the loudest art object about Ukraine. 💛💙

🗼 The Adziogol Lighthouse, also known as Stanislav–Adzhyhol Lighthouse or Stanislav Range Rear light, is one of two vertical lattice hyperboloid structures of steel bars, serving as active lighthouses in Dnypro Estuary, Ukraine. It is located about 30 km west of the city of Kherson.

There are two Adzhigol lighthouses: the rear one, which was hit by rockets (76 metres high), and the front one (34 metres). The rear one is the highest lighthouse in Ukraine and the nineteenth in the world. The smaller one, its exact copy, is located six kilometres away.

The lighthouses were erected in 1911 by an engineer named Volodymyr Shukhov.
“Shukhov’s towers” are often compared to the Eiffel Tower, not in favour of the latter one: Shukhov’s creations are lighter and consequently cheaper. His buildings are easy to recognize: they are iron mesh towers shaped as a hyperboloid, that is, they bend inward. This allows one to build them high without the risk of collapse, and the grid in such structures makes them more wind resistant.

In the end of July 2022 three russian missiles hit the Adziogol Lighthouse in Kherson Oblast – two struck the main part, one landed on construction. This news went unnoticed amid other landmarks’ destruction. But it is something to be sad about: firstly, the building is the highest lighthouse in Ukraine; secondly, it is a unique hundred-year-old object that still looks futuristic.

It still not clear to what extent it is damaged and whether it could be repaired.

Discovery of the day: these kids appeared on Poshtova (Postal) Square in Kyiv a few years ago. But only yesterday we discovered that they're note just cute sculptures – they symbolise the legendary founders of the city, Kyi, Shchek, Khoryv and their sister Lybid. 💛💙

And yesterday they were adorned in the outfits dedicated to US Independence Day. 🇺🇸🇺🇦

God bless USA & Ukraine!
