The Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx
On the edge of Cairo with its multi-million population, you can see them clearly rising out of the desert sand: the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx of Giza. For thousands of years, these majestic structures have symbolised the Ancient Egyptians and their fascinating civilisation. Strolling between man-sized lion paws and beautiful hieroglyphics, you’ll imagine yourself in the time of the pharaohs.
On first seeing the Sphinx and Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Menkaure, it’s not difficult to understand why they are among the greatest mysteries of all time. The easiest way to get here is by organised tour, but those who prefer to travel on their own can get here by bus or taxi. Stay until the end of day; watching the sun set behind the pyramids is a truly magical experience.
