The Piazza del Popolo, or People's Square as the Italians call it, is a spacious square with two Baroque churches on either side of it and three large Roman streets that were important thoroughfares in the Middle Ages radiating out from here. The center of the square is decorated by a 24-meter stele, brought over from Egypt - it is believed that it is 3.5 thousand years old. At the foot of the stele are fountains - sculptures in the shape of lions, and on the edges of the square are two more large fountains - the Fountain of the Goddess of Rome and Neptune.
