Top tips for travellers during the festive season

Transportation
December (specifically xmas period) is a very peak season in tourism since more than 70% of the world's population get a holiday off work.
This means flight and bus tickets are competitive and expensive.
Tip number one: Book and pay for your transport tickets in time to avoid last minute surprises.
If you will need a safari vehicle and tour guide, it's also very vital to make up your mind, book and pay for one to avoid last minute surprises. You must not be disappointed for any surprises if you didn't pay a deposit on what you booked because the key players are equally disappointed by people who book and change plans on last minute yet it's their only chance to work after the November low season.

Accommodation is equally important to book and pay early in time. This is the season where the hotel owners expect to make some money after the November low season so paying in time gives you guarantee of not loosing your booked space.
Plan your time well in advance and listen to recommendations of travel experts.
In such a peak season, it's better to book activities in time because of competition and limited availability of facilities and service providers.
All national parks under the Uganda Wildlife Authority are currently operating on a digital system so your cash money might not help you much. You therefore need to make your budget early in time, make advance payments where possible especially for strict activities like Gorilla tracking, chimpanzee tracking, Rhino tracking, Boat cruises, Accommodation. Park entrance fees can be paid on arrival but also by digital means like visa cards or mobile money. This measure of payment is convenient for everyone since it also puts you on a low risk of being a target for robbery.

Private transport:
Uganda is a free state that allows private transportation even in National Parks. However, you need to be sure of your vehicle's clearance and strength in very poor roads of the national parks to avoid inconveniencing fellow drivers. Be sure that nobody is coming to the park to rescue failed vehicles so it will be a big distraction for people who have come to vew and enjoy wildlife.
If you have a 4x2 vehicle, it's better you drive it up to your lodge and book a 4x4 safari vehicle for the day's game drive (ask your lodge in time about that arrangement)
You can also book a 4x4 safari vehicle for your whole trip beginning from your area of residence in Kampala/Entebbe to save ware and tear on your precious vehicle. There are plenty of safari companies with this provision and they can be able to arrange everything for you including accommodation and activities so that you travel at ease, example; Kiboko Africa Safaris , Terrafrica Tours, Kajie Safaris Hornbill Treks and Safaris-DMC Engagi Safaris Limited Great Adventure Safari Eco Adventures etc

Itinerary/travel program;
It's very important to leave your starting point with everything in plan. Draft a travel plan from the first to the last day. List your highlights and expectations. Estimate your drive times through consulting google and road experts. Put an allowance in timing given the increased traffic of the festive season. Plan all yo set off times to begin very early morning so that you're able to reach your next destination early in time and relax.
Activities like game drives in the national parks must also begin very early morning for good chances of seeing alot.
Planning your whole travel program will also enable you to estimate your whole travel budget

Destinations;
East, West, South, North and Central, Uganda has a variety of places for holiday. 10 national parks, 12 national game reserves, beautiful lakes, villages, farms, cities, recreational centers, etc

What a fabulous evening in Hong Kong
It feels good meeting our Explore Uganda addicts back in their homes.
I showcased Uganda and Rwanda to Benjamin Bdn and his crew in 2021 courtesy of Kiboko Africa Safaris and while here in Hong Kong, he offers me a surprise party.
I'm forever indebted my dear friend and I will definitely revenge (in Iddi Amin's voice to the Queen of England 😃)in future when you return to Uganda.
Looking forward to showcasing more of The Pearl of Africa

Rest in peace Sgt Guma.
We shall forever miss you
https://www.facebook.com/106593136052276/posts/3743633125681574/

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sgt. Scot Guma who was killed by elephants while on duty to rescue communities of Nwoya in Murchison Fall National Park on November, 15, 2020.

The late Sgt. Guma together with four colleagues had earlier responded to a distress call that elephants had escaped from the park. The community members called the rangers to help and chase the elephants back into the park. While trying to scare shoot them, the elephants became wild and attacked them. As the rangers tried to flee for safety and reorganisation, Sgt. Guma unfortunately fell in a shallow ditch where elephants trampled on him leaving him with serious injuries. He died while being rushed to Anaka for medical attention.

The Executive Director UWA Sam Mwandha says that the late Sgt. Guma has been a hard-working and selfless staff who executed his work well while handling human wildlife conflict and operational work of patrols. “The institution will greatly miss his commitment, hard work, bravery and passion for conservation. He has paid the ultimate price of conserving our wildlife resources, he is a conservation hero” he said.
Rangers at Wangkwar sector where Sgt Guma was stationed have been very active in offering quick problem animal interventions to communities surrounding that sector.

The late Sgt.Guma Scot joined UWA on 1st May 1999 as a private ranger raising through the ranks to Sergeant. Before his deployment in Murchison Falls National Park, he had worked in East Madi Wildlife Reserve for 10 years handling issues of problem animals like elephants and hippos as far as the boarder of South Sudan as well as encroachment among others.

He leaves behind a widow and four children.
May his soul rest in peace.
