"Remembering the Uganda Martyrs

On June 3, 1886, 22 Catholic converts were brutally executed in Namugongo, Uganda, for refusing to renounce their faith. These brave men, including Saint Charles Lwanga and Saint Kizito, were burned alive for their beliefs, becoming the first African saints.

Their martyrdom symbolizes the strength of their faith and the resilience of the human spirit. They inspire us to stand up for our beliefs and values, even in the face of adversity.

Let us honor their memory and legacy by promoting religious tolerance, understanding, and peace.

The Uganda Martyrs are a significant part of Uganda's history and Catholic heritage, and their story continues to inspire people around the world.

The Batwa people, an indigenous community in the Great Lakes region of Africa, have a deep cultural and spiritual connection with the mountain gorillas and the Giant Yellow Mulberry tree (known as "Omuhanga" in the local language). Here's how they're linked:

1. Food source: The Giant Yellow Mulberry is a vital food source for the mountain gorillas. The Batwa people believe that the gorillas are attracted to the tree's juicy fruits, which are rich in nutrients.

2. Sacred tree: The Batwa consider the Giant Yellow Mulberry a sacred tree, associated with their ancestral spirits and the forest's spiritual energy. They believe that the tree's presence helps maintain the balance of nature and the well-being of the gorillas.

3. Traditional medicine: The Batwa use various parts of the Giant Yellow Mulberry tree for traditional medicine, including treating ailments related to the digestive system, fever, and respiratory issues.

4. Cultural significance: The tree is also a significant cultural symbol for the Batwa, representing their connection to the forest and their heritage. They believe that the tree's strength and resilience reflect their own ability to thrive in the face of challenges.

5. Conservation efforts: The Batwa people are actively involved in the conservation of the mountain gorillas and their habitat, including the Giant Yellow Mulberry tree. They work with conservation organizations to protect the forest and its inhabitants, ensuring the long-term survival of both the gorillas and the tree.

In summary, the Batwa people have a profound spiritual, cultural, and practical connection with the Giant Yellow Mulberry tree, which is deeply tied to their relationship with the mountain gorillas. By protecting the tree and its habitat, the Batwa are also preserving their own heritage and the delicate balance of the ecosystem.

What does neighbor life feels like?

We take you to one of the localities that have closely interacted with gorillas for decades as it is neighboring with Bwindi impenetrable forest national park.

Life in Kisoro looks very unique, along the roads, you witness women with hoes, baskets well balanced at their heads moving to make an art of terracing along the slopes.

It is amazing to those around the lakes, they paddle dug out across for their economic activities! Women, children and men paddle!

Overlooking the Virunga ranges, beautiful twilights shine upon locals guarding their farms for wild animals including not to interfere with their farms! It is worth a visit. is a frontier to and neighboring member states. Visit Kisoro Uganda with
