Believed to be the second deepest lake in Africa, Lake Bunyonyi is a body of water in southwestern Uganda near the Rwandan border, and one of the country’s top natural treasures. And, at 1,962m above sea level, the lake enjoys moderate temperatures year round, cool in both the mornings and evenings. Most preferably you could make a stop after gorilla trekking in nearby Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of 2,200-2,478m, but it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical; Lake Bunyonyi deserves to be on your African travel radar because, with beauty like this, shouldn’t it be?

Lake Mburo National Park is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks located conveniently close to the highway that connects Kampala to the parks of western Uganda. The park is underlain by ancient Precambrian metamorphic rocks which date back more than 500 million years. It is home to 350 bird species as well as a variety of game like; zebra, impala, eland, topi and reedbuck among others.

The Rwenzori Mountains is the second tallest mountain in Africa after mountain Kilimanjaro. This UNESCO world heritage site is jealously protected as the Rwenzori Mountains National Park and managed by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. Also known as the Mountains of the Moon, this snow capped mountain is located along the border of Uganda bordered by Democratic Republic of Congo.
