GORILLA TREKKING IN AFRICA
With only about 1063 (according to the 2018 census) mountain gorillas known to be existing in
the world, an opportunity to meet them is very rare and highly sought after. This is exactly what
makes a gorilla safari purely interesting.
Only three countries are available worldwide where these incredible primates exist; these
include Uganda, Rwanda and D.R. Congo. Therefore, travelers have the luxury to choose from
these destinations for ultimate gorilla trekking experience.
There are 1063 mountain gorillas in the world today, meaning there is just one gorilla for every
10 million people, which calls for their maximum protection. These gorillas thrive within Africa’s
most remote places, namely Virunga national park in D.R. Congo, Bwindi impenetrable forest
and Mgahinga gorilla national park in Uganda and Volcanoes national park in Rwanda.
Gorilla trekking in Uganda.
Often known by its code-name, the Pearl of Africa; Uganda is a precious jewel in the heart of
Africa which draws millions of visitors to come and enjoy the tranquil of its jungles and climate,
but most importantly to meet the endangered mountain gorillas.
For travelers who crave to immerse themselves into authenticity, Bwindi impenetrable forest is
a perfect place to enjoy this adventure from. And for the matter of fact it was not called
“impenetrable forest” for no good reason. The trek to meet mountain gorillas involves moving
through thick jungles of thorns, shrubs and dense equatorial forest.
Treks here are worth the physical struggles to hike in the midst of smoky jungles, but the
reward is of course a face-to-face meeting with one of most sought after primate species in the
world. Mingle with one of the 18 gorilla families that you may be assigned to.
Spot the vibrant members of the family, including a huge silverback, mother gorillas and
incredibly playful babies as they nimble on bamboo shoots making it a whole enthralling gorilla experience.
