The shoebill stork by
The shoebill (Balaeniceps rex), is a very large long-legged wading bird. derives its name from its enormous shoe-shaped bill.

SCARFACE by / A male chimpanzee, second in command in his troop containing more than 100 members. The scar on his lip is from a hunt of red colobus monkey. It was long believed that chimps were purely vegetarian but they like meat and in some regions, they regularly hunt monkeys, in particular the red colobus. At Kibale National Park in Uganda where this photo is from the chimps may hunt for meat on a daily basis for periods of time.

By 1982, Rhinoceros which are indigenous to Uganda went EXTINCT due to excess poaching and over a decade of armed human conflicts.

But in 2005 with efforts by the Ugandan government through in coordination with a Ugandan NGO Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary was established; and Rhinoceros were reintroduced to Uganda and now over 30 rhinos call Uganda home without any recorded incident of poaching.

Covering 70 square kilometers the sanctuary is surrounded by 2 meter electric fence to keep any intrusion out. Over 78 Park Rangers and security guard keep a 24 hours watch on the rhinos to ensure their safety.

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only location in Uganda where you can see rhinos in their natural habitat

This 332km UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most biologically diverse areas on Earth. Half of the world's population of the highly endangered mountain gorillas live within its borders.

the forest is believed to contain 120 mammals species, 348 bird species, 220 butterfly species and 27 frog species. Included among the mammals are forest elephants and yellow-backed duikers, 160 species of trees and over 100 species of ferns.
