Attention all wildlife enthusiasts! 🌿
Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced adjustments in the rates for tourism products and services in the national parks and wildlife reserves, effective from July 1, 2024. This includes changes in the fees for activities such as gorilla tracking, game drives, birding, and cultural experiences within the parks.

We understand the importance of sustainable tourism and conservation efforts, and these adjustments will help support the ongoing protection of Uganda's diverse wildlife and ecosystems. As we continue to promote responsible and ethical tourism, we encourage all visitors to adhere to the regulations set by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and respect the natural habitats of the incredible wildlife in these parks.

Hippos: From Uganda's Rivers to World Recognition
Hippos, aptly nicknamed "river horses," are iconic residents of Uganda, thriving in its lakes and rivers. These colossal herbivores, second only to elephants in size, spend their days submerged, cooling off and socializing in "pods." At night, they graze on land, maintaining "hippo lawns" with their powerful jaws.

Uganda boasts some of the highest hippo concentrations in Africa. Queen Elizabeth National Park, with its hippo-packed Kazinga Channel, is a prime example. Here, boat rides offer thrilling encounters with these semi-aquatic giants. Murchison Falls National Park, along the mighty Nile, and Lake Mburo National Park also provide excellent hippo-spotting opportunities.

Despite their peaceful vegetarian diet, hippos are surprisingly territorial and aggressive, responsible for more human deaths in Africa than any other mammal. Respecting their space and observing from a safe distance is crucial.

Sadly, habitat loss and illegal hunting threaten hippo populations. World Hippo Day, celebrated today (February 15th), aims to raise awareness of these gentle giants and the challenges they face. By appreciating these unique creatures and supporting conservation efforts, we can ensure hippos continue to grace Ugandan waters for generations to come.
