Reptiles, just like amphibians are present throughout the East African landscape, being absent only in areas above the snowline.

They are secretive and spend much of their time hidden, casual observers may see a few while on a safari but there are some you are not likely to miss like the Nile Crocodile, Nile Monitor Lizard and chameleons.

Water sources are a good place to see these species.

The Zebra 🦓 is a quintessential African animal: the horse in stripy pyjamas and at the end of every kindergarten kid’s Alphabet Chat.

In Uganda only 2 National parks (Kidepo Valley and Lake Mburo) host these black and white animals but the Burchell’s species. They are social animals and not picky eaters like most ungulates in Africa, they dont require just short grass.

Lioness are most often three to four years old when she first becomes pregnant. They usually give birth to between two and four lion babies/cubs. Litter sizes of up to six cubs have been recorded.

In the sun-dappled savannas of Africa, an unlikely friendship blossoms between the towering giraffe and the industrious oxpecker. This dynamic duo is the talk of the animal kingdom, with the giraffe offering its long neck as a dining table, and the oxpecker gleefully accepting the invitation to feast on pesky parasites. The giraffe, with its head in the clouds, appreciates the oxpecker’s grooming sessions, while the oxpecker, ever the chatterbox, relishes in sharing the latest savanna gossip. Together, they wander the grasslands, the giraffe providing a lofty perch for its winged companion, and the oxpecker offering a much-needed spa service. It’s a friendship built on trust, snacks, and a mutual appreciation for a good view!

Chimpanzees occur in tropical forests across central and western Africa. They are large, powerful primates, with hairless hands, feet and faces. Though smaller than gorillas, they tend to be livelier, noisier and generally more arboreal.
Today populations are in decline. For wildlife safari goers, the best opportunity to observe them up close comes with habituated troops, notably at Uganda’s Kibale National Park.

Mount Muhabura, also known as Mount Muhavura, is an inactive volcano in the Virunga Mountains on the border between Rwanda and Uganda. At 4,127 metres (13,540 ft) Muhabura is the third highest of the eight major mountains of the mountain range, which is a part of the Albertine Rift, the western branch of the East African Rift. Its summit contains a small crater lake. The limited evidence for this volcano suggests that it last erupted some time in the Holocene, which is estimated to be 11,650 cal years ago but the exact date is not known. Muhabura is partly in the Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda and partly in the Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda. The name Muhabura means “The Guide” in the local language, Kinyarwanda. It can be seen from many parts of Uganda and Rwanda because of its slope.
