We love nothing more, than to welcome visitors to Uganda from all corners of the globe, as we just know they will fall in love with our magnificent country....known as the 'Pearl of Africa' for good reason!

This week, Across Africa welcomed a small group of very special guests from Germany ....who happen to be some of our valued travel partners there and have now come to experience for themselves what Ugandan hospitality is all about!

Needless to say, they have been overwhelmed with spectacular scenery, exhilarating wildlife and some of the most friendly people one can ever meet! 🤎🧡

The Board of the Association of Uganda Tour Operators kindly called an emergency breakfast Meeting this morning in Kampala.

This engagement was prompted by the urgent need to forge a way forward on the different issues and to discuss the recent tragedies that have happened in our Tourism industry.

Across Africa was proudly represented at this important meeting by Teddy who attended in allegiance with Jennie from our sister company Chameleon Hill Forest Lodge. As always, our ladies were pro-active and engaging with the many questions.

As an industry and indeed a country, the pure attendance at this meeting was proof that we all stand united, to ensure that the recent tragic events will remain an isolated incident, in what has always been known as one of the safest and truly welcoming destinations in Africa.

If you have any questions or concerns- do not hesitate to email our director on:

World Gorilla Day creates the opportunity for people all over the world to come together in celebrating gorillas, and more importantly, taking action to protect gorillas in the wild.

2017 was the inaugural year for World Gorilla Day and it also marked the 50th anniversary of the Karisoke Research Center, operated by the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. Established by Dian Fossey, Karisoke is the longest running gorilla field study site dedicated to the conservation, protection and study of gorillas and their habitats in Africa. There are many great organizations and individuals dedicated to fighting for their survival, but greater awareness and investment are essential to gaining ground for gorillas.

World Gorilla Day strives to be a rallying point for bolstering appreciation and action for these great apes.

As we mark our 7th anniversary of World Gorilla Day, we have much to celebrate as a community and thank the good work of partner organizations and individuals working around the world to make a difference for gorillas.

Gorillas share 98.3% of our human DNA. There is nothing that can really prepare you for the feeling of seeing them up close and personal in their own habitat here in Uganda. It changes you forever!

Across Africa can make this dream become a reality for you. Get in touch now and let our expert team start planning your trip! 🧡🤎

Today on September 22nd - WORLD RHINO DAY ..... We shine a spotlight on the incredible progress of the Ziwa Rhino & Wildlife Ranch - Uganda.

The Rhino Re-introduction Project was a joint venture between Rhino Fund Uganda and the Roy family. With the previous Rhino population having been diminished by poachers, six southern white rhinos were introduced to Ziwa back in 2006.

Since then, they have welcomed 26 successful births, bringing their current number to 32. Presently, Ziwa is the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos in the wild.

Ziwa sanctuary is conveniently located 176km (109 miles) from Kampala on the Gulu Highway heading north towards Murchison Falls National Park and is included in most of our Across Africa itineraries.

Yet another reason to book your dream vacation to Uganda with our expert
team! 🧡🤎

🎉Birthdays should always be a special time ... and so when our sister company 5-star Chameleon Hill Forest Lodge in the Bwindi National park turned TEN earlier this month, the Across Africa team was invited to come and join in the celebrations and to make some precious memories with our colleagues and friends on that side, who despite the distance between us, when we get together, we are really just one BIG family!

🎉Across Africa Director Axel, along with Jennie, who as well as being the Head Office Manager and dealing with incoming reservations and also a serious multitasker of note, were joined by their colleagues.... Teddy - a senior travel planner, Aloys our permit magician who always makes things happen ... Isaac our German speaking Travel planner all in the Across Africa mini-bus as we departed the hustle and bustle of Kampala on the long 13 hour journey to Chameleon
Hill, where we could not wait to once again be surrounded by the tranquility of nature and all that Lake Mutanda has to offer.

🎉Having arrived at 10pm, to an enormous warm welcome from the team at Chameleon Hill, a restful night was just what we needed! Having slept so well, we were more than ready the next morning for a 3 hour walk with the dogs through the invigorating indigenous forest, that surrounds Lake Mutanda.... what a way to start one's day! In the afternoon, there was some time for work catch up ... and an early night was in order ... as tomorrow was party day!

🎉Tuesday had finally arrived and was like all birthdays should be, a day full of fun with lots of story-telling, joking and laughing with friends and colleagues and again coming together again as one family!

🎉On the Wednesday, we needed some recovery time and to also catch up with some work ... but by Thursday we were re-energized again and ready to conquer the challenging Mount Sabinyo hike in the Mgahinga National Park. This is a world famous landmark where at the top one is in Rwanda, Uganda and the DRC all at the same time! We left at 6am taking Gilbert our accountant with us making up a party
of 8 .... Let's just say only 4 of us made it too the top!! The trek was so worth it though, to see the spectacular scenery and the three mountain peaks.

🎉We arrived back to the hotel at 19.00pm, just in time for a farewell dinner .... as on Friday the Across Africa crew, sadly had to depart, and leave for Kampala, as Chameleon Hill being such a popular hotel was fully booked and there was no more room at the inn!

🎉We were grateful though for the amazing time spent together and will be sure to keep the memories in our hearts forever! It was also a super treat to be reminded of how wonderful Chameleon Hill Forest Lodge is and why it is so popular with all our clients.... not forgetting the beautiful scenery our country has to offer and is known as the Pearl of Africa for good reason

We spend so much time curating exhilarating itineraries for our clients, it was great for just a few days to be a tourist again.... we are now back at our desks though and ready to welcome international guests to our magnificent home!

🎉Thank you Chameleon Hill team for your hospitality....here is to the next decade! 🥂

With Uganda also being a much larger country than Rwanda ...you can most definitely travel further for your dollar!

The largest group of chimpanzees ever discovered have built a complex society deep in the Ngogo forest section of the Kibale National park in Uganda — but ambition and neighboring rivals threaten to destabilize their empire.

A visit to this magical area and the opportunity to experience Chimpanzee tracking is included in many of our Across Africa Uganda itineraries.

For the first time ever, film makers have recorded these Chimpanzees up close and personal, in their every day lives and is now currently showing on Netflix.... we promise you it is gripping viewing and even if you were not planning a visit to Uganda, this may just make you change your mind!!

Narrated by Academy Award® Winner Mahershala Ali and directed by Academy Award® winner James Reed, Co-Director of My Octopus Teacher. Chimp Empire is definitely worth a watch!

If you have ever been guilty of trying to fit in a few extra souveniers into your luggage when travelling back from a trip ...We have a story to share that takes excess luggage to a whole new level!

As many of our followers know, we have a sister company.... chameleonhill, a beautiful 5 star lodge in the Bwendi National Park area, overlooking the truly magnificent Lake Mutanda.

Doris, our MD ....has been for a while, trying to source a couple of high quality Kayaks for the lodge guests to enjoy on the lake, but had not had much success locally. She then had a brainwave .... Fellow Across Africa director Axel and Jennie, our Head office Manager for both Across Africa and Chameleon Hill, have been attending the ITB Travel expo in Berlin, Germany. Surely they would not mind a few extra kilos of luggage?

Having found exactly what she was looking for online... two beautiful, well wrapped Kayaks were delivered to Berlin Airport ready for Jennie and Axel to complete the mission at hand and bring them home to Uganda!

After registering the Kayaks as sports equipment on check in, although travelling on different days, we are thrilled to report that they were both successful!

These stunning new vessels will be on route to Lake Mutanda very soon! Who knows ....if booking your Gorilla Safari through Across Africa, there is a good chance you will get to try them out! 🛶🛶🧡🤎

Greetings from the Pearl of Africa,

Understandably perhaps, there have been some concerns from international travellers who are planning to travel to Uganda, regarding the recent Ebola outbreak in the country. In order to avoid unnecessary panic, Across Africa would like to put the situation into perspective and reassure our guests that the efforts to control the situation are most definitely succeeding and that there is no need to cancel your travel plans.

The outbreak is localized to just 6 out of the 146 districts and are easily avoidable. Thanks to swift government action and the hard-working health officials, there have been zero cases of any tourists being infected or indeed any cases at all showing up in top tourist zones. President Museveni himself has assured potential travellers that Uganda remains safe, and we are ready to welcome international guests.

The suspension this week of the recently introduced online Health Screening questionnaire for all inbound and outbound passengers appears to echo the President’s advice and confirm that the situation is under control.

Let us help you finalize that trip!...🧡🤎

As we have said so many times here at Across Africa, ... our magnificent Uganda, is not ALL about the Gorillas and we are truly blessed with so much other incredible wildlife too!

This spectacular footage of 2 fighting elephant bulls was taken at the Kazinga Channel during a self drive safari of one of our recent clients Florian Schoeffel.

The Kazinga Channel is a wide, 32-kilometre long natural channel that links Lake Edward and Lake George, and is a dominant feature of the Queen Elizabeth National Park. The channel attracts a varied range of wildlife and birds, with one of the world's largest concentration of hippos and numerous Nile crocodiles.

A fantastic highlight of any visit to the Pearl of Africa 🤎🧡

Shoebill storks are one of the most incredible looking members of the Pelecaniformes (a group of large waterbirds found worldwide).

In Uganda this ancient species thrives and draws many bird enthusiasts to our magnificent Pearl of Africa. That amazing bill has also garnered the shoebill the name "whalehead" or "whale-headed stork".

It is found in the swamps of East Africa, but mainly right here in Uganda. Although mostly fish eaters, they can also eat baby crocodiles, frogs, snakes and even rodents.

With over 1000 bird species in Uganda, it is no wonder, birding safaris are extremely popular! Let Across Africa help you plan yours!!

Today is World Gorilla Day!

Mountain Gorillas are an endangered species that shares 98.3% of their genetic code with humans! Known as “gentle giants”, they display various human-like behaviours too.

They generally live in family groups of around five to ten, but can sometimes grow to more than 50. Groups are led by a dominant adult male, called a silverback.

Gorilla social life is formed by the bonds between the silverback and his females. Like many other animals, they have been decreasing in numbers for decades, but thanks to considerable conservation efforts by various organisations and governments, the population of mountain gorillas has thankfully increased in recent years from just 480 in 2010 to 1063 today.

Today is about raising awareness of this very special species!

Here at Across Africa, we feel blessed that we get to make dreams come true everyday, by arranging bucket list trips for people to experience these animals in their natural habitat ... coming face to face with a mountain gorilla is a feeling like no other! 🧡🤎
