Tucked just north of Abilene lies Fort Phantom Hill where history rises from the rugged Texas plains. From 1851 to 1854, it stood as a federal outpost, later becoming a stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail Route and a sub-post to Fort Griffin. Today, its stone chimneys and ruins tell the story of life on the edge of the frontier.
