Cindy Dyer Photography Graphic Designer. Photographer. Painter. Gardener. Crafter. Animal lover. Traveler. Writer. Blogger. Biblioholic. Fabric lover. Chocoholic. Party-thrower.

I feel great wonder, joy and curiosity in the world around me. My images range from thoughtful portraits of people to sweeping landscape panoramas to the often overlooked, but exquisitely beautiful, details of nature. With every image, I incorporate a sense of design that is either inherent in the subject matter or the result of my composition decisions. Macro photography in the garden has opened

up a whole new world for me. Shooting with a macro lens reveals such little wonders which always amazes and inspires me. I lose track of time in a garden, whether tending to one or photographing one, gaining tremendous respect for the natural world. My favorite moments are when I’m photographing a flower and hoping for a butterfly, bumblebee or dragonfly to wander into my field of view. Nature has never failed me. An insect lands on the bloom, I refocus, hold my breath and shoot. Serendipity can often turn a great shot into a breathtaking image, thus turning that image into a beautiful work of art. I would like to believe that my images evoke emotions and stimulate the imagination of viewers so they will pause and be touched by the magic and beauty that is always around us. When I'm not out in the garden photographing bugs and blooms, I serve as the owner and creative director of Dyer Design, a full service design and photography studio, providing clients a single source for the tools of publishing and marketing. With more than 20 years of experience, I work with associations, publishers and small businesses. Projects include annual reports, brochures, magazines and newsletters, books, logo design, and convention and trade show materials. I provide photographic services for convention, portraits, and assignment photography. I was featured in American Photo magazine's second annual photography contest in 1997. My work for the Hearing Loss Association of America and Hearing Loss Magazine garnered several Hermes Creative Awards in 2010. I was interviewed and featured on www.Nikonusa.com in 2011 and Shutterbug Magazine in 2014. My photography has been featured on various association publications such as Municipal Lawyer Magazine, Hearing Loss Magazine, Children & Families Magazine, and Celebrate Home Magazine. Check out my Celebrate Home Magazine (free to download) at http://www.celebratehomemagazine.com

I am also a USPS Stamp Artist (Ferns, 2014; Water Lilies, 2015; and my image of Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens is one of a 16-stamp panel released in June 2016 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service).

Today was installation day for my solo exhibit at Children’s National in DC. Shout out to the husband and wife team of James (a fine artist) and Belinda, who install exhibits as a side business, as well as Gallery Curator Greg Scott. I had a schematic to follow and helped by lining up the items in succession along the opposite walls for them to begin the install. Once that was done, I left them to work their magic. I’ll be over there later this week to bring a few extra details (some labels for some extra pieces and such) and will get some photos and a video to share.

Garden Muse: A Botanical Portfolio runs from May 27 – August 30 at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., 111 Michigan Avenue, NW. The show will be up for viewing before those dates, with some things left to tweak (they’re ordering show postcards that I designed, for example).

The ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the gallery being sponsored by Atlantic Coast Mortgage is at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 30. My exhibit is the first installation as the newly-named gallery.

Singing my niece Lauren Drawdy's praises—I highly recommend her for virtual assistant services, web design and other techie needs! She designed my lovely botanical-photography-only website, www.cindydyer.com, and I can't recommend her highly enough for this task. She's in the process of creating a portrait-photography-only site for me now, then will work on my online handcrafted goods store.

https://laurendrawdy.com/vip-days/

She's uber talented, very professional, competitively priced and so easy to work with—loads of resources, great ideas and ample enthusiasm! In addition to her website design services, check out her VIP Days offerings:

I'm opening up my calendar in June for some VIP Days!

Tell your friends. Tell your dog. Tell your neighbor.

A VIP Day is a set day that you get me all to yourself. (Not like that, weirdo.)

You just get my undivided attention to help get your tech-y tasks completed so you can take a big ol' sharpie and cross them off that list that's been sitting there for months. Wouldn’t that feel fantastic?!

Like headbands as much as I do? How about fun, comfortable and reversible ones? Come see the many (many, many) varieties I’ve made for the Holiday Pop-Up shop this coming weekend! One for me, one to sell, one for me, one to sell…

Of course I’ll also have lots of botanical photography-related items like gallery wrapped canvases in a variety of sizes, framed prints, matted prints, a large variety of greeting cards and more!

It’s this weekend, Nov. 18 & 19, 10-4 pm at my shared studio at 7664 Fullerton Road, Suite A4 (walk-up to suite on the right). If you’re local to VA, MD and DC, come see me and 10 other artisans this weekend and get your holiday shopping started!

And for my faraway friends, stay tuned for my online shop!

DRUM ROLL, PLEASE: www.cindydyer.com

My new botanical-photography-only site is live and ready to view! There are LOTS of photos (grab your popcorn and soda and enjoy the lengthy show). Scroll down and click on anything that prompts you to click!

A gazillion thanks to my uber-talented niece, Lauren Drawdy, for the spectacular job she did on this site! I am so, so, SO excited about the results.

There's another great photo gallery under "PORTFOLIO"— and it's called "MORE EYE CANDY," and has all horizontal botanical photos.

Be sure to click on "FREEBIES" and enter your email address so you can download my newly-expanded "Photography in the Garden" magazine and also receive a monthly creativity newsletter, which I'll be starting in December! I won't share your email with anyone; you're just sharing with me to get your freebies and hear from me on occasion!

If you need a website for a competitive price with someone who is a delight to work with, great with ideas and feedback, and has a whole lotta patience with creative people like her aunt, reach out to her! (I told her she's mine for the time being, lol). You can click on her name at the bottom of the home screen to get in touch with her. (She's going to work on a site for herself, with prompting from me!)

This one is for her husband Chris' realty business in Texas: www.getrealtytx.com

And this site for a remodeling company she works with in San Antonio: www.lehrco-tx.com

I stumbled onto Joanie Simon's youtube channel, "The Bite Shot," on food photography. She is an amazing presenter and an engaging teacher. I've done a wee bit of food photography (for my Celebrate Home magazine), but I was, to be honest, just winging it. Even if you aren't interested in shooting food, watch one video and you may find yourself obsessed with shooting food! I discovered her last week and have already watched a dozen videos. She knows her stuff and she is so engaging. I would love to translate those qualities into my own garden photo presentations with this much ease. She is phenomenal! (Also, wish I had the courage to chop my hair off like hers and paint a teal streak through it. Do I dare? 😉

I photographed Katherine Pawlowski for her cover features in the July/August issue of Hearing Life magazine, a bimonthly publication that I design and layout for the Hearing Loss Association of America.

Katherine was named the first Walk4Hearing ambassador in 2014, and she and her mother traveled to many Walks to represent children with hearing loss. A few months ago, I visited with Katherine, now 14, to catch up on her life and learn about her continuing advocacy efforts.

I photographed the family in 2014 for a Walk4Hearing cover feature, and was happy to catch up with them again for this feature shoot. Thanks to my friend Michael Powell for serving as my trusty assistant, holding the diffuser and reflector during the shoot.

You can read my interview with Katherine here:
