Attention to Property Owners:

Code Enforcement will begin to drive the alleys of the neighborhoods. Code Enforcement will be providing notice to property owners who have placed limbs and items in the alley in violation of city code.

Property owners will be given ten (10) days to remove the items in violation before enforcement action is taken.

It is imperative that the alleys remain clear of debris and trash so that city/utility services can access them.

With the potential of hazardous and damaging winter weather events upon us, the accessibility of the alleys remains an important factor in restoring utility services in the event of a major outage.

Limbs and brush can be placed south of the hanger at the airport. NO TRASH OR BULK ITEMS.

All trash and bulk items can be taken to the roll-offs during the normal operational hours;

Roll off hours are: Thursday through Saturday from 9AM-12 noon and from 1 PM-6PM. Property owners must present a copy of their city utility bill for access.

Anadarko Awarded $25,000 Grant for Planning of a City-Wide Trail

The City of Anadarko has been awarded a grant in the amount of $25,000 for the engineering and planning of a potential walking and bicycle trail that runs from Rotary Park to Randlett Park. The Southwest Oklahoma Regional Transportation Planning Organization announced the approval of the grants for the Southwest Region. Duncan and Chickasha received grants as well during this funding cycle.

The idea of a walking/bicycle trail has been brought to city leaders by local residents, however, the funds needed to produce plans have not been available. This grant will allow the City of Anadarko to hire a professional engineering firm to work with local residents to produce a concept that meets the needs and desires of the citizens of the area.

Chisholm Trail Consulting, LLC has been chosen to develop the plan. Their effort will focus on developing the routes, the types of surfaces used, and what type of amenities to include along the trail. The initial concept is to study and develop a plan using the abandon railroad right of way as an option.

“We continue to focus on improving the quality of life for our citizens,” stated Mayor Tanner Salyer. “As ideas are presented, we have instructed the City Manager to look for additional funds that can be obtained from state, federal and private sources to make improvements to not only infrastructure needs but things that enrich the lives of our citizens.”

The newest bust was dedicated today at the National Hall of Fame of Famous American Indians. This bust has been in the collection but never displayed until today.

Nampeyo (1859 –1942)[1] was a Hopi-Tewa potter who lived on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona.Her Tewa name was also spelled Num-pa-yu, meaning "snake that does not bite". Her name is also cited as "Nung-beh-yong," Tewa for Sand Snake.

She used ancient techniques for making and firing pottery and used designs from "Old Hopi" pottery and sherds found at 15th-century Sikyátki ruins on First Mesa. Her artwork is in collections in the United States and Europe, including many museums like the National Museum of American Art, Museum of Northern Arizona, Spurlock Museum, and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University.

A world record for Southwest American Indian pottery was declared at Bonhams Auction House in San Francisco on December 6, 2010, when one of Nampeyo's art works, a decorated ceramic pot, sold for $350,000.

McKee’s Indian Store and the Susan Peters Gallery are treasures. Behind the historic storefront is a world of fine art, jewelry, gifts, and supplies, Pendleton blankets and mugs, purses, broadcloth, beads, pottery and much more. Definitely worth a day trip to explore and enjoy lunch at a historic restaurant in town.
