Today’s “Trip Tips” are brought to you by the dad of a child who does not like a change in his routine!
*Our son was 2 years old when he went to Disney for the first time, and riding in a vehicle much longer than thirty minutes was not his favorite activity. My wife and mother-in-law packed a variety of activities for him to do during the ride. They would give him an activity, and when he got tired of it, they would give him something else.
*If routine is important for you and your child(ren), keep what you can the same. Eat meals about the same time you do at home, take baths about the same time you do at home, and most importantly…. NAP the same time you do at home!
*Our son gets a little overwhelmed with a lot of new things. So, as crazy as it sounds, simply keeping some of his favorite foods on hand when we travel helps cut down on meltdowns. When you are traveling to places that have high numbers of tourists, of course the wait for food could be a little longer than it is at your favorite local/small town restaurant. If you can have an “appetizer” on hand that your child can enjoy while you wait for your food, it could help them not be so antsy during that wait period for the table’s meals to come out.
