NEW: Tropical storm force winds now extend over FOUR HUNDRED miles north from the center of Potential Storm One. This is pushing a lot of water toward the Texas coastline, and significant coastal flooding is expected overnight as tide levels climb toward 5 feet.

Due to the large wind field, the Tropical Storm Warning has been extended north from Port O'Connor all the way to San Luis Pass on the west end of Galveston Island. These warnings have also been extended to the offshore waters south of Louisiana.

I'll post a rainfall expectation update later this evening. For now you can get the latest info during our live TV newscasts and at abc13.com/forecast.

Heads up Brazoria County.

We’re fixing to get hit by a pretty short, but severe thunderstorm. Remember to secure loose items at your residence. Allow extra stopping distance while driving and if you don’t have to drive in it, don’t. If you are involved in an accident, stay in your vehicle and call 911.

Be safe today everybody!

UPDATE MAY 7TH, 2024;

TXDOT POSTPONES BRIDGE CLOSURE UNTIL SOIL CONDITIONS IMPROVE. PROCEED AS NORMAL TOMORROW.

β€œThe plan to close sections of the Highway 332 and FM 521 bridge outside Brazoria this week has been postponed until soil conditions improve, state highway officials said.

The closure will allow for the removal of a section of the former Highway 332 bridge into Brazoria, Texas Department of Transportation spokesman Danny Perez said.”

⚠️MAJOR ROAD CLOSURE; BRAZORIA⚠️

Beginning π™’π™€π˜Ώπ™‰π™€π™Žπ˜Ώπ˜Όπ™” π™ˆπ˜Όπ™” 8𝙏𝙃, the SH 332/FM 521 bridge outside of Brazoria will have some major closures that could cause delays for your commute.

If you are traveling FM 521 SOUTHBOUND from SH 35, the entrance ramp for the bridge to travel into Brazoria will be closed (Highlighted RED). You will need to take the exit ramp towards Lake Jackson, go under the bridge and travel down CR 373 back to SH 332, turn left at the stop sign, then continue on into Brazoria. (Highlighted GREEN). The Northbound exit ramp for FM 521 if you are traveling from Brazoria towards SH 35 will not be affected.

If you are traveling SH 332 WESTBOUND from Lake Jackson, the RIGHT lane will be closed on the bridge. We do not believe the exit ramp for Baileys Prairie will be affected by this.

We are unsure at this time how long this closure will last, however if this is your morning/evening commute, consider another route or plan to leave a few minutes earlier to compensate for the traffic build up. We will update when we find out more information on the roadway reopening fully. TXDOT has also placed signs up with the information.

The Angleton Recreation Center located at 1601 N. Valderas is open and welcoming residents in need of respite, shower, and a charging station. Please bring toiletries and towel. Red Cross is on-site at the Recreation Center to help anyone needing assistance in reporting storm damage to their home. Residents can also call 1-800-Redcross to report damage.

Today is another "watch the radar" kind of day. Please have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings. Large hail and damaging wind gusts are once again the primary concerns.

03/16/2024

We have a reporter and photographer in Angleton documenting the damage from the severe line of storms that passed through. Among the significant damage is Mulligan's Golf Center, which had pieces of its building torn off, shown here. Other buildings in the city reportedly had their roofs blown off.

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office said they have confirmed a tornado did not hit Angleton; strong winds are responsible for the damage.

⚠️CAUTION SEVERE WEATHER⚠️

If anyone is out driving today through Wednesday, please be cautious of bridges freezing over as they are starting to. This continued sleet/snow/drizzle is causing very slick roads. Please stay home if you can.

SH 35 at the San Bernard River Bridge outside of West Columbia has started to freeze over. Other reports of iced over roads include;

- SH 35 at CR 25
- 5400- block of SH 36 in Jones Creek
- Varner Creek Bridge (SH 35 at CR 300)
- SH 288 at SH 288B (BRIDGE IS SHUT DOWN)
- SH 288 at FM 1462 (BRIDGE IS SHUT DOWN)
- FM 521 at CR 520 (McNeil Bridge) is starting to ice.
- SH 332 at FM 521 overpass is starting to ice.
- FM 523 at CR 171
- SH 332 at SH 288B (Going into Freeport)
- FM 2004 at the Brazos River
- FM 2611 at the San Bernard River

Most bridges will begin to ice over completely and be closed overnight. Please use caution and SLOW DOWN. If you are involved in an accident, stay in your vehicle and call 911.

TXDOT is out sanding bridges as well. Please be patient as they will get there as soon as they can. We will update with more information as we get it.
