One Stadium Journey writer, Sean MacDonald, embarked on a 119 day road trip across the country, in which he visited every single NFL stadium. The season-long sports road trip is performed annually by a few fans in each of the popular American sports. Some fly from game to game while others prefer the freedom of the open road. Some see as many games as possible, while others prefer to follow their
favorite team. When it comes to the season long Stadium Journey, there are no hard and fast rules other than being on the road for the length of the season. The 30-team Major League Baseball road trip is the most common instance, as it is relatively easy to visit all MLB stadiums over the long six-month season. Hockey and basketball see far less touring as the winter months are not ideal for long drives and teams are only home 41 times, making a trip difficult. With just 17 weeks in the schedule and 32 teams to be visited, a road trip that encompasses every stadium is no trivial task, particularly as games are limited to Thursday, Sunday, and Monday. Still, that doesn’t stop a hardy few from trying and every year there are reports of one or two fans completing the journey. The 2013 season was no different. One of Stadium Journey’s top stadium travel experts, Regional Correspondent Sean MacDonald, visited each stadium over the 2013 NFL season.
