The Doting Doula

The Doting Doula Hello. My name is Christy, and I love being a doula. I believe that too often, childbirth is portrayed as a medical ordeal rather than a life-giving miracle.

A doula supports a mother through childbirth — one of the most exciting, emotional times in any woman's life. I work with expectant mothers in the prenatal period to understand their vision for their labor & delivery experience and, when the time comes, I support them emotionally and physically.

General information

My journey to become a doula began several years before I took the DONA workshop in 2011. I worked for several years for Health Care Access Maryland in the Maternal and Child Health Department. In that role I worked with low income pregnant women in Baltimore City. I helped educate them on healthy practices for pregnancy and infant care and linked them to community services. In 2009 I gave birth to my first child and while I enjoyed the work that I did, it was very hard for me to return to work full time. Over the next year I took some time to think about how to accomplish both being a stay at home mom and continuing to work with pregnant women. In 2011 I decided to pursue becoming a doula and have enjoyed every minute! I hold a Master’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Spanish from McDaniel College. I am a certified doula through DONA International. I am a life long resident of Maryland, growing up in Anne Arundel County. I currently live in Arnold, MD with my husband and three children.
