Semana Santa in Seville Spain
Violet and I were moved by the rhythmic procession by some 50 churches (brotherhoods) in the streets celebrating The Holy Week.
From what I understand the men in tall pointed hoods (nazarenos) wear them to send their prayers up to God and they cover their faces so only God knows their identity. Some walk barefoot to feel the earth. Around 40 men carry these heavy floats dating back over 300 years and covered of incense and candles. It’s been said they wait decades to receive the honor to be a part of this and if it’s cancelled due to weather you can see grown men in the streets crying knowing they’ll never get a chance again.
It’s a very moving experience even if you’re not catholic, you absorb the energy of devotion and faith and leave restored in humanity.
This is not Wikipedia so I apologize if I got anything incorrect.
