Some of you have fished for Peacock Bass Açu (Temensis) and have caught it in its meanest form (speckled for camouflage) and mood (agressive and in hunting mode). Then you quickly learned that, in Brazil, we call it "Paca". While Paca also means "a lot" in Portuguese, that nickname is given after its resemblance with a big rodent (Lowland Pacas) that is common in parts of Brazil and other South American countries.

Then you will also hear of the "Paca-Açu" which is the same Temensis in a transition mode.

Fact is, no matter how many Açus you catch, you will never forget when you catch a true Paca.

If you are in Atlanta today (7/10) you may want to stop at the Atlanta Fly Fishing Club's meeting to check out Kevin Howell's presentation. Mr. Howell, owner of Davidson River Outfitters in Brevard NC, is an experienced flyfishing professional, renowned fly-tier, author of a couple of flyfishing books and a FFI Certified Casting Instructor. He will talk about fishing in NC and also share his experience fishing for Peacock Bass in the Xeruini River in Brazil. He is the host of a Peacock Bass Açu flyfishing expedition on the exclusive waters of the Xeruini River this coming January 11-18. The meeting is held at Manuel's Tavern at 6pm. The presentation starts at 7pm.
