As you have probably seen in the news, there is a new virus being spread by mosquito bites called the Zika virus. This is particularly dangerous for pregnant women and women who may become pregnant that are traveling to Latin America and some other parts of the world. Another reason to be very, very diligent about preventing mosquitos from biting you. NOTE: the mosquito that spreads the Zika virus bites all day long, not just in the evening. Zika virus is spread to people through mosquito bites. The most common symptoms of Zika virus disease are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting from several days to a week. Severe disease requiring hospitalization is uncommon.
