A great trail riding horse typically has few years on them with a maturity that leaves the silliness of youth behind them. This helps to provide our guests with a reliable, safe experience. But, with that also comes additional care and attention to make sure our horses stay healthy, fit and thriving. Soon after our initial herd of 10 horses arrived from Wyoming we were fortunate to have Donna from CSI Saddle Pads join us to put our horses on the right path to comfort and living the good life here on the island. She was incredibly generous with her time, giving each horse a thorough inspection and custom fitting each with their own personalized saddle pad. This is important because as we know… “A happy horse is a safe horse”.
One of the techniques Donna shared with us was the belly raise exercise. By gently encouraging the horse to lift its belly, you can help strengthen its top line—a key part of their posture and overall health. This simple yet effective exercise promotes core engagement and can work wonders for older horses or those needing extra conditioning.

Meet Jerry Tindell of @tindellshorseandmuleschool in Victorville, CA. Jerry has been an invaluable resource as we prepare and train our herd for opening day. His lifelong experience as a horseman means he’s a treasure trove of knowledge and fascinating facts about these amazing animals.
On average horses live to be 25-30 years old but it isn’t unheard of to find some that live into their 30’s or even 40’s.
