Think you know Centerra? Think again.

I get to walk by High Plains Environmental Center every day, and this entire area (referred to as Centerra), is brimming with nature.

Today, I saw a blue heron and an egret hunting the same fish. It was very entertaining! Plus, there have been a ton of pelicans and seagulls this summer. It's like walking through an Attenborough birding special.

Many across the US experienced high winds the last few days. The Denver front range was especially hit hard with almost 12,000 residents left without power in Park and Jefferson counties.

My tired ( and a little stinky) family spent the day at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science enjoying having modern conveniences such as electricity and running water.

We are lucky enough to have a natural gas fireplace that was not affected and took the edge of the chill that night.

Thankfully, the blackout was only 24 hours. Still 48 hrs and waiting for internet to be resorted. So thanks to friends and family who gave us their old DVD’s. They came in handy.

The behind the scenes chaos while trying to update the primary bathroom at Serendipity Springs/Peaceful Mountain Retreat . Not quite what HGTV has in mind when they talk of “behind-the-scenes”.

All in all, at this stage, the kids and I are ready to be done, but still have one full days worth of edging and decor hanging to do.

Sometimes you have explore in your own backyard. I knew I would be back to Snowpack Taproom & Pizzeria the second I got jabbed in the face with that good ‘ol smell of hops and pizza.

I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of microbrews they had on tap. An extra bonus with 4 littles in tow, a bottle shop. Being the responsible parent I am, I purchased a few different types to enjoy back at Serendipity Springs/Peaceful Mountain Retreat , merely by the amazing art. Seriously, check it out, New Image Brewing Company is eye catching and full of flavor.

I can see why this is a local favorite with the inviting band posters and spacious outdoor patio. The tunes were pretty good too and had me and the kids dancing in our chairs.

Don’t skip the made from scratch pizza. Worth the stop.
