I am 52 years old and stepped down from running Taharka Brothers Ice Cream last May to focus exclusively on the Ocean City businesses we have spent the last four years developing. With my twins going off to college this fall, it felt like the right time to transition into a different phase of my life and luckily my wife (Lisa) agreed with me. I still
have a high school junior, Sam, who is not quite "baked" so having my brothers help me out by taking turns chartering Alyosha will help me not spend too much time away from Lisa and Sam, who will be slugging through the mid-Atlantic winter. I have sailed extensively in the British Virgin Islands and the Caribbean Sea/Islands but have not really focused on the USVI- so I am excited about the exploration of St. John's and St. Croix. I had so much fun sailing around the world with my friends and family and it is going to be really cool to share this with new people. Dave Butz

Feel free to text me. I'm 51 years old, love to sail and snorkeling. I've got 4 kids, youngest one is still in college. I currently work full time on the OC Bay Hopper business during the summers and have a regular "job" during the off season. I would describe myself as laid back. I love taking long hikes, and exploring- so I will enjoy the nature aspect (snorkeling/sights) of all our trips. I drink on occasion. This trip will be a special "occasion" for an island cocktail. My cooking experience is limited, but can whip up burgers, spaghetti, or breakfast at any point. My size, 6'7" , makes parts of Alyosha a challenge. So I'll be watching my head constantly for low passageways. I owned my own sailboat, Sonas, for 6 years and loved to race her at our local club in Havre de Grace. I've sailed most of my life, and captained the Sailing Team at Loyola College. I've been to St. Thomas , by sailboat, in 1992- part of a summer-long vacation with my brothers; Steve and Jim. I was a weather-watcher the whole time. I tend to "play-it-safe" when it comes to the Ocean. This deep respect is borne from weathering a few rough storms during some passages to Bermuda. I'll resist telling you all the stories! I'm imagining the week as a chance to really explore the various coves and cays which make these island so beautiful. I'll bring a book on my beloved Kindle for down-time and look forward to getting to know you each.
