If you have shopped at Target not only during the period of the data breach, but EVER, you are eligible and need accept this offer from Target. It shows excellent corporate responsibility that they are offering one year of credit monitoring, zero liability for incurred losses, and access to personal service in the event of a loss due to their breach. It was recently announced that the breach has affected ~70 million people (up from ~40 million last week), due to a database exposure with Names, Addresses, and Emails for persons shopping at Target for an unknown amount of time in the past. Armed with this information and your debit card number, it is usually enough information to saisfy many websites' "I forgot my password" test, and allow goods and services to be purchased in your name. The monitoring and zero fraud offer will give you the tools to protect yourself and recover from a potential loss, and I recommend everyone take advantage of this service.

This is an excellent example of why education verifications are necessary for executive and management backgrounds. As it turns out, the board member in charge of sourcing Mr. Thompson's background for Yahoo is now resigning from the board. Don't let this happen to you....

We'd like to invite fans of Catalyst's page to ask questions about background screening. Please feel free to post your question publicly here on the page, and we will respond accordingly.


For example: "What kinds of negative information can be included on my background check report?"

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), negative information usually cannot be reported after 7 years. Exceptions apply for bankruptcies (10 years) and jobs or insurance policies over a certain dollar amount. Specifically, in states where the FCRA is the sole governing policy, a job paying $75k or more annually gives researchers greater reporting flexibility. Per the FCRA, criminal convictions can be reported indefinitely.
