Our office will be closed today, June 19th, in honor of Juneteenth. On this day, in 1865, 250,000 enslaved Black people were freed in Texas. A pivotal moment in our nation's history.

As we celebrate freedom and reflect on the importance of this day, we encourage everyone to explore the rich cultural heritage and historical landmarks related to Juneteenth. Don't know where to start? Head out to the Lost Pines Art Center today at noon for a special Dedication of the Harriet Tubman: Journey to Freedom statue.

This is the official unveiling of the Harriet Tubman - Journey to Freedom Exhibit! This celebration will begin at noon at the Kerr Community Park and includes a re-reading of the City Proclamation, a Praise Dance performance, music by Hannibal Lokumbe, and others.

Bastrop is honored to host “The Journey to Freedom,” a traveling exhibition and art installation that recognizes Harriet Tubman’s incredible life and story.

Visitors can experience profound artwork, Q&As with the artists and activities for all ages from June 1-19, concluding with the unveiling and dedication of a new statue in celebration of Juneteenth.
