Plan.It Design was founded in 2005, when after 7 years of doing part time residential work; I decided to pursue my dream of a design firm ‘full time’. With the blessing of two busy baby boys in 2006 and 2007, the company quickly became a part time venture again! Now, with both of my boys in public school, I am enjoying a more flexible schedule and more time to focus on a company I love and my pass

ion for interior design. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Winthrop University and spent the first few years of my design career focused on commercial design & construction management. While I loved the experience and the exposure, nothing could match the personal connection I enjoyed making with my residential clients! I feel so blessed to have such a myriad of amazing clients and am always excited to meet new faces and tackle new spaces!

very real RESTOREDonmain update: we have made incredible progress in 6 weeks! if all goes as planned, framing, plumbing/ electrical/ hvac rough ins, & insulation will all be complete & dry wall will begin by this time next week! we have even started digging footers for the garage/laundry/side entrance addition (more details coming soon)! it’s been a whirlwind with a few “expected unexpected” obstacles, but we are grateful for the patience, grace, expertise & work ethic of the team of pros we have working alongside us. we are there daily, so please pop in & say hi if you’re in the area!

Such a stunning kitchen update! Client was able to keep her cabinets, replacing only the dated doors of the uppers & painting them. Added new, bold quartz countertops, freshly painted walls, updated lighting & turned an unused breakfast nook into a cozy seating area…. Total construction time was under two weeks, unbelievable for such a total transformation! We strongly believe you genuinely don’t have to start from scratch to see a huge difference in your space!

PSA: Pausing for a moment to keep it real. This is obviously our design biz page & we always aim to bring you exciting project updates. BUT, I am all about transparency & while I love a good IG post (even if it takes me half an hour to produce even the most basic versions), I feel like it’s only fair to be real -especially with regards to our dream project - RESTOREDonmain. Is it incredibly exciting? Absolutely! Are we still pinching ourselves that we actually get to do this? You bet! Are we insanely overwhelmed, exhausted & overextended? YES! Have we encountered the inevitable hiccups that come with renovations & multiply with historic homes? YES! Have we lost sleep & wondered if we made a huge mistake? Yes! We have created a timeline that while doable is aggressive & because we are managing the reno portion of the project ourselves has been quite the crazy learning curve. All this to say…it IS awesome, but it IS still crazy & has meant so many late, late nights at the computer & day after day working at the house. We miss our down time & seeing our friends & watching Netflix! We absolutely feel this short term sacrifice is more than worth the long term reward, but please don’t think for a minute this is all a fairy tale. We just try not to bore you with the very regular oh-💩 moments we encounter daily. We try to keep this page full of all the pretty things you expect to see from a professional designer, but nothing is as all-the-time-fab as social media makes it seem.

Restored. The master suite’s cast iron fireplace surround & cover - PLATED IN BRONZE?!? Who knew?!? While trying to remove rust from the surround, I discovered an unexpected ‘shine’ a few weeks ago…. With no water at the house due to demo, I haven’t spent any additional time on it. Yesterday, I brought home the cover. A lot of elbow grease & & W😍W. Just W😍W. It was apparently painted over at some point so it was impossible to tell how gorgeous the finish could be!! This is EXHAUSTING but SO MUCH FuN!

We have officially arrived at the ‘exhausted-overwhelmed-one-step-forward-three-steps-back-so-celebrating-every-small-victory’ phase of the project! 🤪 one of this weeekend’s wins: installing the new dining room mantle! The one that was there was definitely not original to the house & wasn’t historically accurate so we tracked down a perfect replacement on FB Mkplace & after getting the stone installed last week & mirror in place over the weekend, we could finally secure it to the wall - officially in its new home! Whew!

Long post. Cool story. 203 N Main St will forever be the Lineberger home; they constructed & lived in it from 1910 to 2023. BUT, it’s also soon to be the Kines Residence, where our boys will come home from college, where we will gather with friends to celebrate the holidays & where we hope to continue to grow our design business. So, while we are (obviously) going to honor the history of that family & the home, we also want to intertwine our own pieces of the story as we begin this new chapter. First up: the Sinclair gas pump. Weighing in at well over 100 lbs, it was a beast to move but looks right at home next to the storage bldg at the rear of the property. As a child, my family drove to Danville, VA to visit both sets of grands at least once a month. The ‘halfway point’ was always this crazy looking old house with a potty on the roof right off of I-85N near Bills Truck Stop. We genuinely noted it every car ride I recall…. Fast forward to fall of 2021 when I first joined John to visit his family in Lexington. As we approached the ‘halfway point potty house’ I told John its significance…he pointed & was like - that?!? THAT was the remnants of Kines Gas & Grocery & was my great grandfather & grandfather’s! The ‘potty on the roof’ was all that remained of an over-the-biz apartment - everything but the porcelain had fallen down. So, learning MY family had acknowledged JOHN’s family’s business most of my childhood as we passed up & down 85…ofcourse we wanted to add the remaining gas pump to our property as ‘cool’ yard art (& an old oil drum & gas can). 100+ year old gas station memorabilia that connects our stories in the yard of our 100+ year old house after 20+ years of marriage…. Pretty? No. Peculiar? Ok, maybe. Perfect? - for us- YES!

Every day, we change spaces…. But, some days a space - or client - changes us. God planted this one square in our path at just the right time to remind us how much - & exactly why - we love what we do. This young lady loves & especially the color purple. She asked for a feminine, comfy & sophisticated space with just a little sparkle & a touch of sass - a true reflection of her personality & style. We gave it our best shot on a tight timeline & absolutely had a blast! So humbled to be a tiny piece of her huge milestone towards independence! Welcome home, KB. SO excited!!! We felt confident the dining room mantle was wasn’t original- & confirmed our suspicions today when we removed it…it was mounted to drywall, not a plaster wall! I searched & searched & searched over the past year & found what we expect would have been very similar to the original - & was juuuust the dimensions we needed! & drove 4 hours round trip to pick it up, we have stored it for months & today & lugged it to its final resting place…. AND it’s a PERFECT fit! Once we secure the new marble surround, we will reattach the antique mirror & set it in place for good!!!!

We are committed to sharing this whole journey- the good, the bad, the ugly - & the stupid expensive. THIS is why you NEVER paint latex over unprepped & unprimed oil based paint. E.V.E.R. Do. Not. Be. Lazy. Do. Not. Be. Cheap. Do. Not. Take. The. Shortcuts. Thankfully, we caught this during our due diligence period & were (somewhat) prepared for the additional cost this means for the interior painting. As a ‘quick fix’ to make the home appear light, bright & more desirable/sellable, a quick coat of paint was put over EVERY trim surface - every door, every window, all base, crown, door & window trim. It will take hours & cost 1000’s of unnecessary additional dollars to correctly remedy. What was intended to make it more desirable in this case was actually a huge deterrent to anyone who knew what they were getting. …& trust me, most if it certainly isn’t peeling off quite this easily! We are SUPPOSED to be on vacay… But this awesome client is out of town… …& this time last year, after the EXACT holiday trip to see family (during the epic freeze of Dec ‘23), they returned home to a burst pipe in their attic that resulted in basically the entire house having to come down to studs to rebuild. After a year of design decisions, design delays, & well…just design, design, design…. We found ourselves SO close to the finish line, we jumped at the opportunity to at least TRY to give them a ‘reveal’ that feels like a full 180 from a year ago when they return later this week. It isn’t perfect but we pray it feels much more like ‘home’ than it has for a full year. These folks - & their sweet kiddos - have shown incredible resilience, patience, kindness & faith throughout a challenging process (to say the least). It has been a pleasure to humbly assist them in this process. We are grateful for dear friends that recommended us for the job & the clients’ subsequent trust in us throughout the year. There is nothing more personal than your HOME, your safe haven, your retreat…& when that is taken suddenly, the vulnerability that follows must be terrifying, overwhelming & exhausting. The opportunity to hold their hands & cross this finish line together is such a treat. @aliturner04, @kinesappstate & I are beyond grateful. 🫶🏻 …video is of us KILLING it 😂 with one of the hardest parts of install day - duvet cover swap (legit, Alison has this down to a super science!!!) 🫣😵‍💫😂 LOTS of before & after photos/reels/etc to come…stay tuned!!!
