Plan.It Design, LLC

Plan.It Design, LLC full-service residential interior design firm founded in 2005, specializing in creative, personalized touches that won't bust your budget!

Plan.It Design was founded in 2005, when after 7 years of doing part time residential work; I decided to pursue my dream of a design firm ‘full time’. With the blessing of two busy baby boys in 2006 and 2007, the company quickly became a part time venture again! Now, with both of my boys in public school, I am enjoying a more flexible schedule and more time to focus on a company I love and my pass

ion for interior design. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Winthrop University and spent the first few years of my design career focused on commercial design & construction management. While I loved the experience and the exposure, nothing could match the personal connection I enjoyed making with my residential clients! I feel so blessed to have such a myriad of amazing clients and am always excited to meet new faces and tackle new spaces!

Over 25 years of designing spaces & not one project has been more challenging, more emotionally-charged or more rewarding. I feel SO blessed to have moved our oldest son into his dorm at NCSU today. “By design” I’m the definition of “extra & over the top” - he’s not. I love & live for the details. He doesn’t. It is THEIR room for the next 10 months…not mine. From concept board to research to ordering & packing & installing… I truly feel like we found a great balance - a well-thought-out, well-planned, efficient, practical & comfortable room - but hopefully still utilitarian enough to feel like ‘theirs’. I certainly tried. No project has ever brought me more joy & no “client” has ever felt more important. I pray they feel the love that was poured into it every time they set foot in it & hope they make the best memories in the year ahead!

In addition to super cool historical documents, amidst the ‘trash’ we stumbled on an old portfolio case - that contained over a dozen beautiful original watercolors from the late Anne Lineberger. With the help of .stowe.16 we were able to connect with her daughters & return these treasures to their rightful owners. What a treat to have a glimpse into the creative talents of the woman that made this house a home for many years. While we never met her, we love hearing stories of her painting, scrapbooking, gardening & hosting friends. We look forward to filling this home with similar love, laughter, friends & family for years to come….

After closing on this 100+ year old property that had remained in the Lineberger family until our purchase, we discovered almost a dozen huge bins of family & business memorabilia from the Lineberger Family. It was dubbed ‘trash’ by the seller at the time of sale but was truly fascinating to dig thru - containing papers dating back to the late 1800’s & early 1900’s. Our love of history & ‘telling a story’ led us to intervene & salvage all of the bins before they were destroyed. We reached out to other family to ensure many family albums & documents found their way ‘home’ & with the help of we were able to share a lot of what we discovered with & . The Lineberger family legacy had such a transformative impact on Belmont & Gaston County - & the textile industry nationwide - we are thrilled to see use some of what we discovered to create this new exhibit, ensuring generations to come will have a clearer understanding of the impact one family can have on generations to come. Yes, this is a beautiful home & promises to be an exciting restoration & transformation, but it’s also an opportunity to help preserve & tell a story - & that may very well be our favorite part!

Connection. Love meeting others as passionate as we are for preserving the past & telling beautiful stories through spaces & the treasures they hold…. We look forward to working with our new friends at (Old Town Salvage Company) to fill in missing pieces as we work to bring 203 N Main back to its original glory! THRILLED to score the perfect replacement tiles for a bedroom fireplace surround - they are even crackled & covered in soot-stains - which will mean a seamless transition from original old to replaced old… Bradley has graciously agreed to help us source replacement doors, additional replacement tiles & even some slate roof tiles for additional needed repairs. While our plans include updating the home with many modern amenities, our hearts are set on honoring its history as well. Thankful to add a new partner whose extensive knowledge & undeniable kindness will help make this possible!

You Had Me At Hydrangea - Joyce Palmowski SO excited to bring this piece home & place it in its temporary ‘holding place’. Eventually, it will be the perfect piece over the office mantle at 203 N Main St. Art should speak to your heart - instantly evoke emotion - feel like it tells a piece of your story…. My mom loved blue hydrangeas & gifted me many treasured plants over the years. This piece was featured in a recent mother-daughter show for at & the moment I saw it, I knew it belonged on our walls. The colors, the soft strokes, the subject, the artist, the gallery - it just speaks to my soul. 🩵

A few weeks ago, we tackled ‘the little house out back’…. The new roof gave the impression it was a potentially inhabitable rental or fun little she-shed…. But truthfully, the bathroom on the back had no foundation & was separated from the rest of the building…creating lots of opportunities for weather & rodents to destroy what was intact. Electrical & plumbing were no longer operable & there were large areas where the floor had given in to wear & weather. We opted to gut the interior & add a new subfloor. We didn’t tackle any electrical or plumbing - just opened up & secured the space for future plans - but the results were still fantastic. We foresee an incredible workshop for our DIY projects…or maybe even a future pool house?!? Guess we will see what the budget can bear! lol! Regardless, that lap siding & exposed beams are 😍😍😍! Such a fun ‘bonus blessing’ at this incredible property!

Absolutely incredible exhibit - capped off this evening by a beautiful Mercy Moment hearing how God led these ladies to Holy Angels & how quickly they have become woven into the touching tapestry that makes up this ministry. Their talent is matched only by that of the residents whose own works resonate with energy & enthusiasm. If you have a chance to check it out in the next few weeks, undoubtedly worth your time! 😇🩵

We love to & sometimes that means getting crafty. Took some of my old trophies apart & stacked the marble bases to make some simple bookends. A fun, functional way to make use of something that was merely collecting dust; now we can enjoy a couple of conversation pieces that also prove mama had talent . 😉

SO excited that a unique opportunity for us to share & preserve found treasures at our project now offers a unique opportunity for a summer intern. Donna Groot Taylor - we are beyond grateful for your knowledge, perseverance & patience in guiding us thru this exciting & overwhelming process. Looking forward to the opening of an exhibit at Gaston County Museum of Art & History that includes some incredible treasures we found upon closing on the Lineberger property.

We're looking for a summer collections and curatorial intern!

Intern will assist Collections Manager by sorting through and accessioning the newly acquired Lineberger Papers for the first half of the internship. The intern will then work with the Curator to create a small digital exhibit explaining the contents of the Lineberger collection and highlight some objects and papers of interest. They will get an authentic experience of collaborations within a museum as well as hands on experience accessioning a collection, adding it to our database, and curating an exhibit of their own.

Interested applicants should email a resume, letter of recommendation, and a cover letter to Education Manager Alex Brooks at [email protected].

Deadline to submit is May 10.

Questions can be directed to:

update:
We recently tackled one of the largest, least glamorous & most pressing tasks in our master plan - removing the 80’+ tree that had dropped a huge limb during a storm years ago, leaving a gaping hole that collected water. While it was BIG & BEAUTIFUL & HEARTBREAKING to see it go, multiple pros had advised the water collecting had caused major rotting & it wasn’t safe to remain. One look at the large pieces as they came down, confirmed we had done the right thing. HUGE thank you to for having the expertise & equipment to tackle such a huge job safely & quickly! The precision in which they took down this beast was impressive - all in one day to minimize the inconvenience to all involved. They were even kind - & patient - enough to cut us a few slabs for use as table tops to ensure a piece of this beauty remains a part of the property. In the same spirit, before we did the tree work, we spent weeks relocating literally hundreds of bulbs & heirloom plants from the surrounding natural areas to other locations in the yard (even passing along some to friends & neighbors!) to ensure we salvaged & maintained as much history from the landscaping as possible. Ultimately, we have BIG long term plans for this now empty area of the yard! SO excited to be a small (safer!) step closer to bringing that vision to life!

When we closed on our house, we discovered SO many treasures that we can’t wait to share! My absolute favorite find was an entire portfolio of original watercolors by the previous owner, the late Anne Lineberger. As an art student myself, I was in awe!!! …& of course, having also lost my mom, we immediately tracked down her daughters & insured these priceless treasures landed with their rightful owners!!! SO many people commented on our previous posts about their love for & memories of her, I thought it would be fun to occasionally share a pic of some of her work; she was so talented.

John & I have some exciting news & as we begin to take baby steps forward, it seems like as good a time as any to share…

I have lived in this ‘quaint’ town since I was 6 years old. I’ve always admired the beautiful historical homes that line Main Street, but truthfully, I’ve never paid this corner or this home much attention (after all, you couldn’t see most of it past the infamous ‘hedge’). Regardless, I certainly never recall this “pillar” being anything but leaning as I’d pass by on occasional walks.

We knew this leaning ‘tower’ was a hitching post, but after closing on the home, were shocked at the passion many had for preserving it (which thankfully was our plan all along!!). We have genuinely loved learning more about this little piece of local history in our ‘new’ front yard. Original to the home (circa 1910), AC Lineberger used to hitch his horses here as he traveled back & forth to the chronicle mill in Mt Holly. Rumor has it that his grandson, Arch, from whom we purchased the property, refused to upright the post because it was proof “a working man had hitched his horse there for years”. As much as we loved that story & the quirky lean to the post, after consulting multiple professionals & historical experts, we all agreed its days were numbered if left at that precarious angle. Having learned it’s one of only two remaining hitching posts in our county & likely one of the oldest remaining in its original location in the state, we opted to have it brought back to an upright position before it inevitably crumbled to its demise.

THIS is the kind of stuff that brings me the most joy… & is why I am still pinching myself that we are actually ON this journey. Preserving, restoring & telling a story… It doesn’t get much more fulfilling & exciting to me. Sure, at the end of the day, its merely bricks, mortar & a broken off metal eye-ring…but when I think of the days, months & years a hard-working visionary of our county faithfully returned home at lunch & after a hard day’s work to tie up his horse…. Crazy to think about how much our world - our county - our town has changed since that home & post were first constructed.

I’ve ‘only’ lived in Belmont since the early ‘80’s & John nor I ever knew the Lineberger family personally, but we hope this hitching post is just the beginning of a beautiful new chapter for us & for this unbelievably stunning property. As this all became a reality last fall (officially ON our 21st wedding anniversary), it became clearer than ever that ‘Lighthouses’ are merely a beacon to our destination & maybe never meant to BE a destination at all…. Instead, more of a guide to ultimately lead us HOME…. In this spirit, without hesitation, we were blessed to be able to essentially ‘trade’ our beloved Lighthouse Lodge to fulfill the dream of owning & bringing this home back to life.

We look forward to calling 203 N Main Street in downtown Belmont HOME next Spring - home to both our family & our growing business. We hope you’ll follow along as ‘uprighting’ this hitching post is just the beginning of “ ,” our latest, our largest, our most comprehensive, our most challenging & our most exciting endeavor to date.
