Guidelines about the Re-issuance of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) Card

It has been noticed that some OCI cardholders were not allowed to board flights to India as the passport numbers on their OCI cards did not match with their current passport numbers and the OCI cards had not been reissued.

To avoid this inconvenience, OCI cardholders are required to note the following guidelines regarding the reissuance of OCI Card: -

Up to the Age of 20 – OCI cardholders must reissue the OCI Card each time their passport is renewed.

Between 21-50 years – Reissuance of OCI Card is not required each time the passport is renewed. It is advisable to carry the old passport along with the current passport and the OCI Card as part of abundant caution, but is not mandatory.

After completion of 50 years of age, OCI Card is required to be reissued mandatorily.

Further, the steps for submission of application for re-issuance of OCI Card are as below:

(i) Submit “OCI Miscellaneous Services” form on https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome

(ii) Submit “OCI Application - Get Started” form on https://www.in.ckgs.us/oci

(iii) Submit print-outs of the above two forms along with the current OCI booklet, applicable fees, and requisite documents to the CKGS Office in Chicago.

Transit Visa Regulation for Indian Residents
In order to ensure a smooth and hassle free tansit through two Schengen States or when booking a Journey from India to USA via Canada, please pay attention to the transit visa regulations.

1. Indian passport holders in possession of a valid visa to USA and traveling to USA via Canada require a Canadian Transit Visa.
Routing Example : Bengaluru - Frankfurt -Toronto- Newark - Frankfurt - Bengaluru

In the above routing, the indian resident would require a Candian Transit Visa even if there is no stopover in Toronto.

2. Indian passport holders in possession of a valid visa to their final destination, but transiting via two Schengen States, require a valid Schengen Visa.

Routing Example : Chennai- Frankfurt- Paris -Chicago- Frankfurt- Chennai or Chennai- Frankfurt- Munich -Chicago- Frankfurt- Chennai

Transit Visa requirements also applies if one of the transiting airports is Vienna or Zurich. e.g. New Delhi - Vienna - Frankfurt/Munich/Dusseldorf - USA/Canada

In the above routing, the Indian resident would require a Schengen Visa even if there no stopover in Frankfurt or Paris or Munich.

3. Indian nationals can Transit without Visa via FRA or MUC if holding a valid visa for the destination and a valid Visa for any of the following countries

Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Ireland, Japan, Liechtenstein, Romania, UK and USA (the approval notice I-797 is not valid document for visa free airport transit).

Can I carry electronic devices in the cabin on flights to the US? - Emirates

ETIHAD AIRWAYS ANNOUCEMNETS

Following a directive from U.S. authorities affecting selected airports, Etihad Airways has been advised that guests travelling to the United States from Abu Dhabi International Airport are not permitted to carry electronic devices larger than a cell phone or smart phone in the cabin.

Mobile phones and medical devices are permitted but larger items such as laptops, tablets, cameras and e-readers will need to be placed into checked-in baggage. For those guests bound for the U.S., this must be done at the point of origin which may not necessarily be at Abu Dhabi International Airport. The new rules come into effect for those US-bound flights departing Abu Dhabi on 25th March.

Bags/Boxes will be made available for guests arriving at the USCBP screening area in Abu Dhabi who are traveling with a prohibited device. Once packaged, the device will be collected and loaded into the hold for offload to the guest on arrival in the USA.

Safety and security remain the highest priority for Etihad Airways and we will continue to assist passengers in complying with this directive. Further information will be available on our website at etihad.com.
