Emmett's House is our family home we recently converted to a vacation rental to share with people who visit Boise. It's a perfect place to stay for family gatherings or a quick shopping trip. The kitchen is fully equipped and a great place for entertaining. The covered patio is a perfect place to spend socializing on the warm late summer nights. And, there is a hammock in the shady corner of the b
ack yard to sneak off for an afternoon nap. The kitchen and bathrooms have been remodeled and is furnished with beds for 9 (but you can really sleep 14 if you include the sofa in the family room, queen airbed and queen euro lounger in the sitting area of the main floor). Why Emmett's House? Emmett is one of our most important family members. He's definitely the most unusual member of the family. He is our 16 year old African Sulcata Tortoise who joined our family when he was just a hatch-ling. After he was large enough that he couldn't get through the spaces under the fence he started living in the backyard. Over the years our family friends grew to love Emmett too. He's quite mischievous - he has eaten Stephanie's hostas and other plants a time or two, last summer he knocked over the heat-pump which cost almost $1K to repair, and loved to tease our 3 pound chihuahua, Chica, by laying on her favorite toys. Most of all, he enjoyed basking in the sun in them morning and spending the afternoons patrolling the perimeter of the back yard. He loved peeking into the neighbor's backyard through the holes in the fence. He also kept the yard mowed by eating the grass, loved dandelions and climbing around the rocks in the landscaping. Now, Emmett lives with Stephanie and Tim in Bend, Oregon. He is adapting to his new environment and for those of you who have met Emmett, we did bring his house with us! It fit in the back of Tim's pickup.
