Wilderness medicine skills for the win!
This is why we teach! Today I received this photo and note from Gustavo who took a WFR course with us in Kobarid, Slovenia.
"Happy new year! Thanks to your awesome Wilderness Medicine training I’m still alive and kicking. This new year I was one of the lucky few to get a permit to backpack on our beautiful Dominican mountains. The group was tracing a new route which was not marked. On the way back, I was got lost and had to spend a night alone with temperatures dropping to 0 Celsius.
My training kicked in and I bundled myself in a hypothermia burrito wrap to keep warm. My tent had “escarcha” (icicles) on it in the morning. It might not be the most dramatic story but it was certainly great to have the training and skills. Attached is a photo of me with the Pico Duarte in the background—the tallest mountain on our island. Thank you for your awesome instruction. It came in very handy!! - Gustavo
