"One of the cutest beings on this planet, an opossum, also one of the most misunderstood. They are marsupials, they do not transmit rabies and are indispensable for pest control, they are naturally docile and gentle, and when scared they show their teeth and hiss to appear menacing, but when they are terrified they don't "play" possum - they quite literally faint from fear - so do not harm them!"

NOW is the time to take precautionary measures for your pets. Make sure your fences are secure, your meds are refilled, your microchip information is up to date, as well as your pet's ID tags. No other holiday is as busy for shelters as July 5th. PLEASE keep them safe this weekend!

It's 85 degrees outside. People like to leave their dogs in the car while they run into the store for just a "minute". If we get to your car before you come back out, the ticket is $260. We have a city ordinance that states:

"Further, it shall be unlawful to:
(3)Leave an animal enclosed within a vehicle, or the bed of a parked truck, in ambient temperature which exceeds 79 degrees Fahrenheit unless said animal is enclosed inside the vehicle with the air conditioning turned on." under Sec 6-9.

Please leave your pets at home. The inside of a car heats up very quickly.

If you witness this happening Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm, call 405-372-0334.

If it is after hours or the weekend, call 405-372-4171 immediately.

Just a gentle reminder as the next heatwave starts to limit summer car trips with your pets to when you can run the air conditioning at all times. Temperatures in the car will skyrocket to fatal levels in minutes.

ā€œDid you know that an incoming MD is only required to have 2 hours of training in nutrition?

Or that our current ā€œhealth careā€ system was based off of acute (wartime) injuries?

This is our ā€œnormalā€.

We arenā€™t taught about preventative measure to take care of our health before it gets to a state of dis-ease.

We arenā€™t taught to detoxify the body and clear it seasonally like many cultures do.

We arenā€™t even taught how to be intuitive with our food consumption and instead, with our food-like products, our senses and cravings get hijacked.

We are taught that itā€™s ā€œnormalā€ to be too busy to sit down and eat and take the time to nurture our bodies when it is time to do so.

We are constantly on the go, letting our cravings become so far gone that eventually we crave the worst and quickest releasing energy foods and drinks which stress out the body even more.

We arenā€™t taught that food can be a chronic exposure to toxins and cause things like oxidative stress- furthering later to be a collection of chronic conditions down the road.

We arenā€™t taught to balance our blood sugar and how important that is to stabilize all hormones.

We arenā€™t taught that food can either perpetuate a condition or cure it.

We are looked at sideways if we ask what is in our food in restaurants or events.

We arenā€™t guided on how to eat to get certain vitamins and minerals when we show signs of deficiencies.

But it doesnā€™t have to be this way.

We know that this ā€œsystemā€ isnā€™t working.

We know that food is such a huge part of the solution when it comes to regaining health.

There is certainly an awakening that I am seeing and I am HERE FOR IT!

If you can change one thing today, reevaluate the food that you are consuming. Buy organic, seasonal, local if possible. Consume less and less processed, more whole, REAL foods. Buy from the clean 15 list. Make sure your food supply isnā€™t adding to your inflammation and chronic conditions.

Never underestimate the small changes when it comes to working on your food quality, these incremental changes are the ones that actually ā€œstickā€. āœØā€

As you enjoy the summer temps, please do right by the best friend who depends on you the most. Remember: a pet in a parked car, even with the windows open, can quickly overheat and die on a warm day.

If you see an animal in distress in someoneā€™s car, call 911 immediately and try to find the owner. If you cannot find the owner immediately, and you are still waiting for first responders and the animal seems to be in grave condition, state law allows you to break the car window or make entry to save the petā€™s life. ā¤

On the sweeter side...

Slice bananas and spread a little peanut butter in between, freeze for an hour, then dip in chocolate. Refrigerate for another 10-15 minutes and boom you have an awesome snack.
