We are thrilled to have a white Christmas!

This season’s first true snowfall arrived the weekend before the holiday, with a fresh dusting on Christmas Eve to add to the magic. Perfect timing for our holiday guests who travelled from warmer climes for a family celebration in Cambridge and Boston’s winter beauty!

Returning from Boston at sunset on Sunday we saw the most amazing otherworldly rainbow. (No filters in the first image, second image highlights its force field effect.) Walking through the Lesley lot the rainbow’s end seemed to nestle beyond the trees, at the Cambridge Cosmopolitan

Boston was drenched yesterday morning by the remainder of the massive storm that swept across the US this week. We had an inch and a half of torrential rain by 9:30 am - even the Citgo sign seemed dim.

(No photos of the impressive lakes on Storrow & Soldiers Field Road since I had to steer through those)

The clouds cleared and beautiful blue skies emerged in the afternoon, just in time for our current guests to arrive for Harvard Reunion. After a stormy travel day they were happy to land / park at the Cosmo and walk to their evening events.

Wishing a wonderful weekend to all in town for Reunion!

Cambridge is glorious in spring - so many beautiful flowers blooming over these past weeks amid symphonies of tree blossom. The world is awash in clear light and there is always something new to notice: whether fresh blooms so vivid no filter could make them more intense, or the rich architectural detail in the main post office, a demolition sign I’ve passed many times brilliantly lit up and delicately tracing the changing forms of trees, or simply “not art” - the city, like life, is beautiful and always evolving.

March in Cambridge embodies the truism “In like a lion, out like a lamb”.

Over the past weeks we’ve seen early signs of spring: from the first brave rain-drenched February snowdrop to green shoots emerging and the whole garden breaking out in tiny happy snowdrops dancing in the breeze, too busy jigging in the sunshine to hold still for photos. Daffodils and tulips (at least the tulips we can save from marauding bunnies) will soon follow.

If you’re visiting Cambridge / Boston at this time of year, pack layers for our weather - it can be nippy with the odd bit of snow or gloriously sunny and warm enough to go without a jacket. The wind is often hard at work: sweeping in clouds for a flower-feeding shower, or gusting and chasing clouds out of the sky to give us brilliant sunshine. Cambridge Cosmo provides large umbrellas for the occasional soggy day, and we recommend that our guests pack wind- and waterproof shells for the days umbrellas might be tempted to take off in the wind like Mary Poppins.

A lovely reflective winter day at the Cambridge Cosmo, gazing across the street at “sister” buildings. Though the modern city surrounds us, the facades of these three Victorian homes haven’t changed much in over 100 years.

Over generations these buildings have evolved from single family to multifamily to student rooming houses and back again, with some people living on our street for many decades while others are here for a shorter stay often centered on the universities. This vibrancy and welcoming blend of old and new is so much of what I love about Cambridge.

Moon over Oxford Street.

After a blustery frigid day the winter sky made an evening walk so worthwhile.

No one at the dog park - we ended at which was warm, welcoming, full of beauty, bling, and happiness.

Happy Lunar New Year!

Swipe to see the resting dragon spotted … bracketed by glimpses of our own recent visit to Hong Kong.

Did you know that Boston’s historic Chinatown is over 100 years old, Cambridge has a steadily growing Chinese population, and Cambridge has a Chinese language public elementary school (Martin Luther King Jr School) which offers both a Mandarin immersion program and a bilingual “Ni Hao” program.

Flashback to last year, when the Cambridge Cosmo welcomed a large Chilean family celebrating the holidays in New England.

They asked for a tree, and - barely ahead of time - for a nativity scene for their youngest (6 yo) child. It took last minute field trips to three far flung shopping centers around Boston to finally find what we wanted. Worth it for bringing the magic and personal meaning of the holidays for our guests.

This year the Cosmo is hosting the extended family of nearby neighbors, gathering their clan for a celebration with the oldest (in his 90s) and youngest (just a few weeks old) and everyone in between. We are so happy to provide the warm and welcoming space for this family to spend special time and make precious memories together.

Whatever your beliefs and however you may observe or celebrate any winter holidays, we hope you are surrounded by love and filled with happiness. May the solstice sky’s promise bring hope, joy, and light to all in 2024.

‘Tis the season - our neighbors’ giant skeleton finally got his Santa hat!

One of the many things I love about Cambridge is the quirkiness, unexpected humor and joyful beauty [in the eye of the beholder] one can find around every corner.

Harvard Summer School has opened applications for their summer 2024 programs for high school students.

In 2023 several summer school families chose to stay at the Cambridge Cosmo - their students loved Harvard summer school, and their families loved staying in our gracious, spacious, ideally located property.

What a beautiful image in this post - we can’t wait for next summer!

Harvard offers two amazing programs that allow high school students to live and learn like college students, meet new friends from around the world, and strengthen their college applications.
