TPG Tips: If you're planning a multi-stop trip in Europe, don't end your trip in the UK. It'll cost you.

Here's an example:
Suppose you want to visit five of the most popular cities in Europe. Here are the taxes and fees you'd need to pay on a United Airlines business-class award ticket departing from the following airports to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR):
-Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN): $40
-Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO): $61
-Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS): $85
-Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG): $143
-London's Heathrow Airport (LHR): $325

Flying out of the U.K. is significantly more expensive than departing from the other countries on the list — its taxes and fees are more than double those of any other country. The U.K. has the highest departure taxes of any country in the world.

This is because of the U.K.'s Air Passenger Duty, or APD, which varies based on two factors:
-The length of your flight
-The class of service

It's also worth noting that two of the U.K.'s largest airlines — British Airways and Virgin Atlantic — impose notoriously high carrier-imposed surcharges on their flights in addition to the APD. As a result, award flights on these carriers (even if only connecting through London) will still have high out-of-pocket costs.

The European countries charging the highest taxes include the U.K., Germany, France, the Netherlands and Italy. Conversely, flying out of countries like Ireland, Spain, Greece, Turkey and Portugal is cheaper.

So when planning your next trip to Europe, visit the countries with the highest taxes first or in the middle of your trip. Finish your vacation in one of the cheaper countries.

Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort will begin piloting a new service providing expedited entry to theme park attractions: Lightning Lane Premier Pass.

Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be offered in very limited quantities and will give guests one-time entry to each available Lightning Lane entrance in the theme park they are visiting that day. This includes attractions included in both Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Single Pass, but with Lightning Lane Premier Pass, guests do not need to select an experience time. Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be a premium offering, and prices will vary based on the date and theme park guests are visiting.

At Disneyland Resort, the Lightning Lane Premier Pass will be available first come, first served beginning two days in advance of a theme park reservation and will be valid for use in both theme parks. The first date it will be available is October 23, 2024.

At Walt Disney World, when Lightning Lane Premier Pass launches, it will be available to guests staying at Disney Deluxe or Deluxe Villa Resorts and may be purchased up to seven days in advance of their stay. It will only be valid for use in one park of the guest’s choice per day. The first date it will be available is October 30, 2024.

Prices for Lightning Lane Premier Passes vary by date and theme park. At launch, prices will range from $129 to $449 (per pass, plus tax), with the highest prices falling on a limited number of days over peak travel periods. Eligible Guests will be able to view prices in the My Disney Experience app.
