Artisan Landscaping and Curbing donated all the plant material, lighting, Slatestone Curbing and labor to restore the Boca Grande Fire Station. The island was hit hard by both Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

The owner is a first responder that is stationed on Boca Grande. It was our honor and pleasure to return the heart of the island to its past beauty.

As some of you know, I’m a first responder stationed on Boca Grande. I love this island. Every time I cross the toll bridge, I roll down the windows and breathe in the salt air. It feels like home. The small town feel brings me back to growing up in Vermont.

This was a project that meant a lot to me. I donated my entire hurricane check from EMS, and more, to purchase all the materials. I planted multiple palms trees and plants, added color changing LED spots lights with a remote control and my signature Slatestone Curbing.

It makes me proud to pull up to the station and see what Artisan Landscaping and Curbing has created. The Boca Grande Fire Department is the heart of the island and I’m lucky to be able to do both my professions in one place.

Jeffrey Rennison and I had our shift on Boca Grande with Lee County EMS Medic 16 the morning after the storm. The island is closed down entirely. The bridge is controlled by the National Guard and patrolled by LCSO. We were escorted to station by Sheriff’s Office to ensure safe passage. The island suffered from catastrophic damage to the roads, water and sewer and electricity. There is up to 5’ on sand covering many of the roads that didn’t get eroded away. It will be anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to get water.
It’s very sad to see what happened to my second happiest place. Luckily the island was almost completely evacuated. Long road ahead.
