Things I learned visiting the Algarve/Albuferia area of Portugal:

•Falésia Beach is a long beautiful beach. Lots of families. No chair or umbrella rental unless staying at the Epic Sana. And no food or drink at the beach.
•Epic Sana Resort - this was an amazing property at the very end of Albuferia. So away from all the crowds. Right outside the property was a little town with probably eight restaurants. Very affordable and the food was amazing along with the gelato. Highly recommend.
• You must visit the Villamoua which is a marina about 20 minutes from Epic Sana. You can park at the McDonald’s as it is free and just walk over to the marina. We ate at the restaurant News and it was lovely.
•Sao Raphael is a wonderful place to visit the cliffs, beach, and the restaurant that is located right at the beach. It was about 30 minutes from our resort. And I’m so glad that we got to go hiking there.
•This was a great stop after our busy time in
Lisbon and before going to Porto. I might go back and just go a vacation here on the beach!!

Things I learned in Lisbon:

•Lots of steps, elevation, and uneven payment – must be have good walking shoes
•Find the hidden elevators and escalators to get you to the higher places like Sao Jorge Castle, Alfama,
•Visit the store that has been there from 1886 with hats and that also sells Gingiha which is a delicious cherry liqueur.
•Take a walking tour the first day or so you are there. So helpful as the city can be confusing
•If you want to be close to everything book the Hotel Mundial or it’s sister boutique property – Portugal Boutique hotel – both are lovely and share the Mundial Rooftop Bar which is beautiful
•Take a food/wine tour
•If you like hot sauce try the Piri Piri but be careful as they typically are all homemade so very in heat – great on their pork sandwiches.
•Definitely go up to Sao Jorge Castles and spend some time there. Get tickets online to avoid the lines. This castle overlooks the city and is beautiful with lots of history.
•Go up to the Alfama area to Miradouro de Santa Luzia Church that has the most beautiful flowers and overlooks the river.
•Walk to the River as it is pretty flat all the way there and then back to the Hotel Mundial
•You will have to pay for water but their water is ok to drink
•Rossi Train takes you to and from Sintra – this train goes back and forth between Lisbon and Sintra all day till pretty late
•Don’t need reservations at the restaurants if you go around 7-8pm but anything after that you will need a reservation
•Look for restaurants that have good reviews and lower prices like – Mae’s Kitchen – we loved it there and the prices were affordable
•Lady of the Mountain is the highest point in the city and has the best views – long walk straight up to get to it but worth it.
•They love their seafood – Cod Fish, Sardines, Shellfish, Clams and their pork – not a lot of vegetables which I found strange – except salad
•Try their Vihno Verde – green wine – it’s a young wine that is light and refreshing like a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio so I loved it😊
