July is Disability Pride Month, celebrated in recognition of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Here at GrayLily Travel, we are all in favor of celebrating the people who work twice as hard as anyone else just to make it through this world. The founders of this company are both disabled, and we know what it means to struggle. I'm recovering from a ruptured aneurysm in my carotid artery + a stroke, and I live daily with the effects of hyperparathyroidism, lupus, chronic kidney disease, and endometriosis (+ PCOS + adenomyosis), among others. My husband fights against intractable epilepsy and the stigma attached to it on a daily basis. But we have beaten the odds and not only survived our marriage for 21 years (relationship for 25), but we have thrived. We have two beautiful children, we are tenured English professors, we own our own travel company, and we own our home. These would not have been possible had it not been for the ADA. So please, during this month, do some research to learn about the ADA, and what life was like for disabled people before it was signed into federal law.

Meet the namesakes of Graylily Travel: my daughters, Grace & Lily. Everything I do in life is for them, and this is no exception. They want to travel the world--starting in Japan--and I want to make that happen for them. They're a little older now than they were in this picture, but they're still just as sweet.
