Often clients will ask me if it’s “worth it” to pay extra for a moderate or a deluxe resort? I recently stayed at the All Star Sports Resort in a newly renovated room. The new beds are super comfy and rooms are clean. We could definitely hear everything that was going on in the room next door and had to share the resort with several rowdy school groups. If you are a heavy sleeper and just need a clean room to sleep in after a long day at the parks, a value resort could be perfect for you. If you prefer a quiet place to sleep in the evenings and value your time relaxing at the pool I would definitely recommend staying at a moderate or deluxe resort.

I highly recommend pre booking all excursions in Alaska. If you attempt to book an excursion at the pier there are no guarantees that the company will provide the advertised experience. We had a less than stellar tour that we booked at the pier when our pre-booked shore excursion was cancelled. (More on that later) When you pre-book your excursions through the cruise company, or a trusted third party shore excursion provider you are guaranteed that you are investing in a tried and true shore excursion. Ketchikan was the first city in Alaska and the city is 100% walkable if you just want to get off the ship and explore a little.
