You could walk around town and read all the historic signs to learn about Castine, but it is so much more fun riding in comfort with a Castine Touring Company guide to tell you the history as well as what makes Castine great in 2024.

These signs were created as early as 1908 and are historic in their own right, but since they were created historians have learned more. Modern interpretations of events and names make some of these signs outdated, but they are treasured pieces of the town history too.

Happy Thanksgiving from Castine Touring Company! We are so thankful to live in a beautiful place and have such wonderful visitors to show it off to. Thankful especially for our drivers and volunteers who work so hard to make the dream of a touring company come to life!

A common question our drivers get in the summer is, “But what do people do all winter in Castine?” Well, we stay pretty busy! Emerson Hall is always bustling with activity.

All the goblins and ghouls marched through Castine yesterday for the annual Halloween parade. The ghosts haven’t left, but ghost tours are finished for the season. Thanks to our wonderful team of volunteers who made this fun little experiment a success! We sold out, booked extra rides and captured even more stories for next year.

Don’t let our ghost tours scare you away… our historic Castine cemetery is positively peaceful on a sunny day. It’s a place for a contemplative stroll (and some hill training) and a chance to reflect on who came before us.

This weekend one of our drivers took a special tour with exploring the sites and hearing the previously untold stories of some of Castine’s African-American residents from the past. The research is on-going and we hope more tours like it will be offered in the future. Thanks to the team at for continuing the work to uncover the past.
