Heavily influenced by the different ethnic groups including the Roma people, the rich culture of Hungary is rooted vehemently in folk traditions and has its own distinctive style.

All kinds of music, from classical to folk, is a crucial part of everyday life, as is the country's rich literary heritage.

The rich heritage of this country is mirrored in its crafts such as ceramics and embroidery, with distinct traditional cuisine, strong fruit brandies, dance, and the ever-popular spa treatments.

Hungarians are horsemen because of their nomadic past, and the visitors would often get an invitation to go riding from local friends.

Hospitality is also a standard part of their culture and don't be surprised if they pry you with personal questions about your life because it’s all part of the getting-to-know-you process.

● A lot of people in Budapest using mass transit ride the bus daily. There are about 200 routes, and express buses with red number signs serve the busiest routes in the city.

● Taking the Metro is the fastest way to get around Budapest, although underground journeys don't offer much in the form of sightseeing.

● Danube River Ferry Service – The route provides a lovely commute for locals as well as a great way to get around and see the city from the Danube for visitors.

Budapest has an undeniably astounding mix of exceptional buildings, beautiful sights to see, including two UNESCO World Heritage sites (Andrassy Avenue and the Danube with the Buda Castle and the Parliament).
There are also pampering-healing baths, the full range of museums, some churches, like the big Catholic Basilica, or the elaborate Jewish Synagogue, and of course the markets in Budapest – brimming with flavors and colors.
Besides baths, museums, churches, and markets, however, there are some famous and popular tourist attractions in Budapest that are somewhat special architecturally or historically.
Just to mention a few of the buildings among the top tourist attractions:

Budapest has exquisite architecture, from Roman ruins and Gothic-style cathedrals to traditional Turkish baths.

A commonly used style in the downtown area is the Eclectic style, from the 19th Century. The eclectic style is a mix of older styles.

The baroque style comes second in popularity. It's got a lot of distinct details, with beautiful, decorative windows and doors.

The third one is the Gothic style, dating back to medieval times. Many churches and public buildings followed this style.

We end our tour of Amsterdam in its art museums, which are some of the world's best.

There's Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh – and in recent years, the city's major institutions have taken action to reach a historical mark with a surplus of significant refurbishments. These refurbishments bring its Golden Age and modernist treasures to the people in a way that has exceeded all expectations.

Amsterdam's artistic scene dates back to the 13th century and offers something for everyone.

Visit the Rijksmuseum, which showcases an extraordinary journey through 800 years of Dutch art and history projected via a four-floor extravaganza of 8,000 examples of painting, drawing, photography, jewelry, and fashion. Or the Vincent Van Gogh museum, where you can explore that artist's works alongside his influences or the artists he influenced.

Remember those blue and white milk jugs and kitchen tiles and the little girl and boy poised for a kiss, these porcelain pieces are iconic symbols of the Netherlands.

Potters from this side of the world have been making beautifully decorated, blue-tinged earthenware called Delftware since the 17th century.

This type of ceramics is highly valued because of its historical significance and association with traditional Dutch design.

The style of pottery is also sought after by most visitors to the Netherlands and can be spotted at some specialist stores throughout Amsterdam.

These would be the perfect souvenir to bring back a piece of Amsterdam to your home!

Amsterdam has been portrayed as a party city, with adult-themed sights; that's just not true. Although it's a small city, there are a lot of things to do and see for just about anyone.

Amsterdam is a very appropriate city to travel with children. In Amsterdam, parents ride their bikes with their kids, the parks serve as a backyard for many children and taking your kids with you to dine on pizza-sized pancakes, to food halls or museums, is how you'll fit in with the locals.

This makes this city a kid-friendly destination for a city trip!

We continue our tour of Amsterdam with some Fun Facts about Tulips:

● Vincent Van Gogh had an extraordinary fascination with nature, but believe it or not, he never painted a single tulip in his life.

● Back in the 17th century, a tulip mania took place in Europe. Some species of these tulips were so expensive they cost more than a house, and it was impressive to have tulips in your home. It's like a parked Ferrari in your garage today.

● Every year, there are around 2 billion tulips exported from the Netherlands.

● Each year, you can come to Dam Square and pick one of 200,000 colorful tulips in a specially constructed garden. This happens every third Saturday of January to celebrate the launch of the Tulip season.

● Tulips come in pretty much all colors of the rainbow except blue.

Let's continue our exploration of Amsterdam the locals' way: it's best to explore the narrow, winding streets of Amsterdam's historic 17th-century city center by bike. There are up to 400 kilometers of bicycle paths leading just about everywhere in town, and it's no surprise that Amsterdam is a true cycling city.
Renting a bike to get around town will surely acquaint you with the local scenery plus it's a cheaper option for public transport. Don't hesitate to ask expert guides and rental shops on how to get around the city as they offer great advice to inexperienced bikers.
Oh, and always watch for bikes when you're walking...they don't stop for pedestrians!

Let's continue our tour of Amsterdam by learning about windmills.

Windmills used to be incredibly prevalent in the Dutch landscape, and more than 10,000 were used for industrial purposes. Later, they gradually disappeared as other sources were preferred, such as steam, then eventually diesel, and electricity.

Did you know that the Dutch love the windmills so much, they dedicated a day in mid-May to celebrate them, called National Windmill Day. It's a time of the year when they decorate the windmills with flowers, figures of angels, or Dutch flags.

Windmills have many functions. They are true all-rounders. Many people believe windmills were only used to make flour out of grain, but they can pump water, saw wood, make paper, and even make pigments used in paints! You can see several uses for windmillls at Zaanse Schans, just outside of Amsterdam.

Summer is a great time to see Europe! Whether it's a river cruise, an ocean cruise, or a land-based tour, the beautiful summer weather and many hours of daylight are sure to make the most of your European adventure! We'll start our virtual tour of Europe in Amsterdam, one of my favorite cities!

One of the best things about Amsterdam are its canals. There are a LOT of them, over 160! If put end-to-end, the Amsterdam canals would stretch for over 100 kilometers long (60 miles). There are 1700 bridges in Amsterdam, which is 1300 more than Venice has. A lot of these bridges can open up for the taller ships to come through. The canals of Amsterdam divide the city of Amsterdam into 90 different islands. Some of the locals inhabit the canals of Amsterdam on a houseboat! There are roughly 3,000 houseboats in Amsterdam.

At first glance, the architecture of Curacao might seem like a more colorful version of Amsterdam. That's because the island was colonized by the Dutch after gaining its independence from Spain in the 17th century. Look beyond the bright colors, and you'll see Dutch architecture, cobblestone streets, and open-air plazas that are all reminiscent of an old European city.
